The Angry Darren Mullins
June 10, 2017: Heyuan Childrens Park (Heyuan, Guangdong, China) I went to the Heyuan Childrens Park today. It is located in the northern part of the Heyuan city center. This park opened only a year or two ago. It is very clean and nice. One thing that hurt the experience though was the lack of large trees. It was very hot today. The rides here make up a basic package. There is a large Ferris wheel, double decker carousel, bumper cars and so on. The coaster here is a Golden Horse Spinnin...er family coaster. I am not sure of the Chinese name, but the train had Flying Car written on it. It is based on the Vekoma Roller Skater. It is a bit choppy, but at least it is not a spinning coaster, jungle mouse, powered dragon or any of the other designs China can't help but copy numerous times. I am hoping that new rides built here will not be copies of these designs. It is time for the Chinese companies to offer new concepts. Back to the park, I am happy that this park offered rides that were an alternative to Heyuan Plaza, which I visited yesterday. I like Heyuan Plaza and Heyuan Childrens Park because they offer different things. They didn't just opt to build the same rides at both parks. One has a spinning coaster, the other has a more conventional family coaster. Both parks have a double decker carousel and bumper cars and it should be expected that parks in the same city would offer some rides exactly the same, but my visits to these two parks over the past two days gave me two different experiences. Another things about the parks here in Heyuan is the prices are dirt cheap. A Golden Horse Spinning Coaster usually costs 20-30 RMB for a ride. The one at Heyuan Plaza was 10 RMB. The family coaster at Heyuan Childrens Park was 11 RMB per ride. At Galaxy Land in Zhongshan, the same ride costs 20 RMB. The Heyuan Childrens Park coaster became coaster #1062 for me today and Heyuan Children's Park became park #528 for me to visit. Heyuan's parks are clean, fun and a step in the right direction for how two parks in the same city should be built in terms of selecting which rides to offer. Well done Heyuan. I have arrived at Heyuan Childrens Park. This is just inside the entrance. My first stop would be at the ticket booth. This was my ride of choice. I think the English name is Flying Car. Whatever it is...at least it is not another spinner. It is the Golden Horse version of the Vekoma roller skater. It is laid out a little differently. It is a new ride. It seems both parks in Heyuan are well kept. The park has one of these swing rides. Here is a look at the Ferris Wheel to close out the TR. Henry M
When I scrolled down, I thought the star flyer was a Larson drop tower! Thanks for sharing, an interesting park.
bert425
I'm really surprised China has so many small amusement parks. it really does seem that every city you visit has at least one, and sometimes more. how do they all stay in business? are they Government run to provide entertainment to the masses, so they don't need to worry about having a paying customer base? thanks for sharing all your park pics. . . I always find your posts very interesting!

The Angry Darren Mullins
The rides in the city parks as well as the theme parks often receive subsidies from the government. City parks are built to entertain the locals and fund are set aside for rides. Theme parks in China are often built to make real estate more valuable. About 80% of the parks here do not make a profit. They are simply built to attract people to buy land and invest in the area near the park.
