Mindbender is turning 30!

Happy Birthday to this amazing coaster! March 16th is its big 30th birthday

 

Anyone planning on going on a ride to celebrate?

 

I wish I could go, because I never have, but I live across the continent and an international border, and I just realized this today!

Mindbender is an excellent example of Intamin/Schwarzkopf in its prime. Its my favorite because it was the first looping coaster I rode, and when I was 7 I was terrified the whole time.

 

The scenery on this ride is what makes it amazing as well. It takes advantage of the hills and since it is an older rollercoaster all of the trees have had time to fill in, making it even more breathtaking. I cannot say whether or not I've actually been successful at grabbing leaves off of the trees while riding, but they canopy most of the ride, making it very pleasant on hot Atlanta days. The queue also sports this feature, which is why I don't mind waiting up to 1:30 on crazy busy days.

 

 

Its definitely worth the trip in my opinion, and while you're at SFOG check out all the other great niche rides it has. Just be aware that Atlanta's humidity is a force that takes lives during the summer.

David and me (the bears) back in 2001. And it was actually, the first time we had

an On-Ride Photo emailed back to us from the kiosk, there! I've done a few more,

since that time. But it was still a cool New Idea back then.
