Hey all, I posted a thread earlier about a California trip in September, thanks a lot for all the replies in there. However the girlfriend vetoed that plan and we are now going to Texas. Flying into DFW. We plan to go to six flags hurricane harbor and six flags over texas. Not able to go to sea world nor able to go to six flags fiesta texas (The dates/times on both just don't work out unfortunately)

Any ideas of what else to do in Dallas/San Antonio?

Six Flags over texas looks to be open 10:30am-11:00pm the day we plan on visiting. I will look into the flash pass once we are there, probably buy the gold pass.

If anyone has any advice on what rental company to use, and how in the heck to avoid the toll roads? (The rental companies want around $12.00 a day for the toll pass system, that's highway robbery! That's near what they are charging per day for the car!!)

Thanks!

Just trying to help. How many days are you going? Do you understand that San Antonio is about 5 hrs from Dallas? That will cut one of your days in half just for driving. If you don't plan to do any of the theme parks near San Antonio, there is a lot of tourist stuff to do in the city. If you could make it work though, I suggest going to SFFT. Arlington area does not have as much to do.

As far as car, I use Priceline to get the best deals from who ever. Also, you can travel between San Antonio/Arlington area with out paying a toll.

Thanks for the reply. Six Flags Fiesta Texas days just suck in September. The only day we could possibly go is the first sunday we are there, and that's the only other day that Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is open, and my gf really wants to go there (She loves waterparks)

We are thinking about doing the river walk sorta thingy, not sure what else in San Antonio.

Are toll roads clearly marked on the signs? It looks like the main road out from DFW is a toll road, but if I tell google to avoid it--google still directs me to use it.

When I was there to start the TX/Midwest trip last year, a bunch of us did the riverwalk and Alamo. I also got a pass from a trolley company that was near the Alamo. It was a 2-day hop-on-off pass that went to the missionaries and around San Antonio, it also included a boat trip on the riverwalk and a pass to the top of the tower that is down there. If you want the name of the trolley company, I can probably find it.

edit: The link to the trolley tour is http://www.thealamotrolley.com/ If I remember correctly the package deal sells out early in the day as it is a good deal if you plan on doing all of it.

If you haven't left yet. . . Interstate 35 (I35) goes across Texas direct from Dallas/Ft. Worth to San Antonio (passing thru Austin).

that's an Interstate Highway, not a toll road. . but be warned there's always a TON of construction. So hope you have some patience.

If you go from Ft Worth, it's I35W, if you go from Dallas, it's I35E -- but the two will connect into the same stem headed towards San Antonio/Waco/Austin

In San Antonio, the Riverwalk is really a night time thing (mainly restaurants/bars), but try not to miss the Alamo, the Hemisfair plaza (with some amusement rides, and some great artisan shops). I always recommend the San Antonio Zoo too. .it's a good one, and there are always discount coupons you can print from online.

if there's no way you can make Fiesta or SeaWorld. . honestly, based on what you said about your girlfriend loving waterparks. . I'd blow off San Antonio sightseeing completely, and spend the day at the original Schitterbahn.

especially since you're passing right thru New Braunfels on I35
