verticalzero Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 How many of his coasters are still operating today Same question for Prior and Church Coasters.
coaster1 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 www.rcdb.com is your friend But I think only 2 P&C and 0 Travers .. well that he built and designed.
chauncey Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Yes, that's right. Harry Traver's rides were all destroyed and/or heavily modified (ie: The Cyclone become an out and back known as The Comet, which is still operating). 1 Prior & Church coaster, and 1 more Church. The Big Dipper at Belmont Park in San Diego, California (Prior & Church), and The Dragon at Playland in Rye, New York (Church).
ebl Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Too bad the Long Beach Cyclone Racer is gone (torn down in 1968). That was also a Traver design, and I think it was one of his favorites. My dad got to ride that many times, and I wish they'd kept it for just a few more years at least... Eric
WalrusMan Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Giant Dipper @ Santa Cruz used P&C patents heavily and is sometimes touted as a P&C coaster, but was really designed by Mr. Looff himself. Although it's said to be very reminiscent of the Bobs coasters that P&C designed.
