Where should I go?

Recommended Posts

Hello TPR members.

In a few days I'm flying over the Atlantic to New York City. While a visit to SFGAdv is on my schedule I manage to talk my fiancée into spending one more day at another park. I scoped out a few but would like your input on my options.

1. Hersheypark. Looks like a big place with a good mix of rides.

2. Lake Compounce. Boulder Dash looks like a lovely woodie the way it snakes down the landscape, but together with The Wildcat it seems to be about it there.

3. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. Looks like they have a few rides worthy a visit.

4. Playland. Dragon Coaster but not much more?

Am I missing a place? What do you think is my best option? I look forward to your input.

Hey! Welcome to the US!

I'm from Northeastern Pennsylvania, so I'm very familiar with this part of the country, though I've never been to Lake Compounce.

Out of the ones you've listed for a possible day trip in addition to SFGadv, I would definitely vote for Hersheypark.

Skyrush will knock your socks off, and Storm Runner and Fahrenheit are great as well. The park's wooden coasters are pretty much all great, and Hershey is practically an American icon, so I think that's your best bet.

Dorney is nothing more than a small regional park. If you were to choose Dorney, you'd still enjoy your time there absolutely, but Hersheypark's coasters are better (in my opinion..again Skyrush is awesome). Dorney has a fantastic water park, but that doesn't seem to be your main interest.

You did miss Knoebel's, which is in Elysburg, Pennsylvania. It's a fairly small park (though it's the largest free-admission park in the world I believe) with two great traditional wooden coasters, and the Flying Turns coaster, and a bunch of great flat rides.

Overall, if you're looking for a large park with great rides, SFGadv and Hersheypark are what I would suggest for you.

Good luck!

If you're looking for an all-day park, Hershey, Knoebel's, and Dorney all fit the bill. Lake Compounce and Quassy can also be a day.

If you're looking for culture or history, Coney Island is the place, and can be combined with, well, New York City.

Out of those you are considering, I've only been to dorney and Hershey and I would definitely choose the latter. It has fantastic rides (my second and third favourite coasters are storm runner and skyrush) as well as a very solid B&M invert, a really fun duelling wooden coaster, Fahrenheit (which I think is very underrated) and more.

Thank you very much. I think it's off to Hersheypark then.

As for Coney Island I forgot to mention we will make a stop there as well, and it wasn't even my idea. She wants to show it to me being an New York landmark. See you soon Cyclone!

In my opinion, if I were to take a trip to New York and visit two parks, it would definitely be Six Flags Great Adventure and Hersheypark. So I'd suggest Hersheypark. Skyrush really kicks butt especially.

Yeah, I'm set for SFGAdv and Hersheypark. I also noticed that Victorian Gardens in Central Park has a Zamperla Wild Mouse. Bonus credit!

For a full day park, there's zero doubt whatsoever that Hershey is the best of that bunch. It isn't even that close. I mean, you could combine Compounce or Playland with other parks or attractions in the area and probably have a great time, but Hershey is all around the superior option. Free dark ride next door with the Chocolate Tour, zoo included, better food and atmosphere. And really, better rides too.
