NEWS: Broadway at the Beach adding new rides & stores

Amusement rides are reaching new heights at Broadway at the Beach this year.

 

Several new rides and ride areas are joining the lineup at the popular retail-entertainment complex in Myrtle Beach, including the Rocket Flyer towering to 180-feet high that passersby might have already spotted going up near the Hampton Inn.

 

Other new rides include Speed, Freak-Out and the Giant Slide, a dry slide that stands 65 feet tall and is 180 feet long. The rides are supposed to open some time this spring.

 

Rides have long been a part of Broadway’s offerings, including the Pavilion Nostalgia Park near the Hampton Inn that pays homage to the long-time Myrtle Beach staple in downtown that shut down for good after the 2006 season. PARC Management, which manages the NASCAR SpeedPark and Myrtle Waves Water Park, had been managing the Pavilion Nostalgia Park until this year.

 

Broadway Amusement Rides LLC is taking over management of the ride areas at Broadway at the Beach, Broadway owner Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc. said in a news release Friday. Bill Prescott, who runs other Myrtle Beach amusements including the Slingshot along Ocean Boulevard, is the registered agent for Broadway Amusement Rides LLC, according to the S.C. Secretary of State’s office. Prescott declined to comment about the Broadway rides Friday, referring questions to representatives of Broadway at the Beach.

 

The Rocket Flyer has moved into the spot at the Pavilion Nostalgia Park that had been occupied by the Wave Swinger. That ride will move to another spot in Broadway, B&C’s Patrick Walsh said in an email.

 

On Friday, B&C did not answer other specific questions from The Sun News about the rides, only providing an emailed statement through its PR firm LHWH. The emailed statement did not specifically provide answers to the questions, including where the Wave Swinger will be moved, whether the Pavilion Nostalgia Park will keep that name and why B&C is overhauling the ride offerings at Broadway at the Beach.

 

“We will be making an announcement about other exciting changes premiering at Broadway at the Beach this season at a later time,” the emailed statement from B&C spokeswoman Lei Gainer said.

 

In addition to the rides, several new stores and restaurants are moving into Broadway, which is between 21st Avenue North and 29th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach:

• Rooster Bar & Grill plans to open this summer at the entrance to Celebrity Square
  
• Vividelle has already opened and sells women’s clothing, shoes and accessories
  
• Designer Sunglasses sells eyewear and accessories and will open this spring
  
• So Unique is an embroidery gift shop that will open this spring
  
• Kryptonite Character Store, also opening this spring, sells comic book, cartoon, movie and TV show merchandise
  
• Coastal Carolina Winery sells traditional wines including merlot, cabernet and chardonnay

Broadway has 100 shops, 23 restaurants and eateries and a cluster of nightclubs known as Celebrity Square. Like other attractions along the Grand Strand, Broadway says it likes to add new offerings each year to give the high number of returning visitors to the area something new.

This should NOT be overlooked. I was down there last week - this ride is insane! It is better than the Windseekers and StarFlyers (which I also love). They claim it is the only one in the world... I haven't ever heard of/seen one before, has anyone else?

 

180 feet high, 10 RPM, and spinning! (riders get to pick whether they want to spin or not... but that's what makes this so unique)
