Help with Picking an Avatar?

Whenever I try to pick an avatar picture, it won't let me, as it keeps telling me the picture is too big. How do I fix this?

You make the picture smaller.

A picture I made for my youtube channel. It's got the words Ultradude306 in large red letters with an explosion in the background... Sorry, I can't upload it.

please make sure there are no strange characters in the file name.. letters and numbers are ok...

I loaded the picture I have into photoshop and changed the pixel count to what it specified when trying to upload it. 150x150 or something like that I think.
