A trip to Fuji-Q

Hello all, I am currently studying abroad in Japan and have plans to go to the Tokyo area for spring break in late March. I plan during this time on heading out to Fuji-Q. I am aware of the park's pretty bad reputation on this site, but the "Big 4" coasters there are enough incentive to go. I am wondering from anyone who's been there before:

1. What would the crowds be like for late March, most likely a weekday?

2. Is there any fast lane type upgrade? Judging by all the pics of humongous lines I assume there's not.

3. I see that you pay per ride unless you purchase the "free pass." For a day of straight coaster riding, this would probably be best, correct?

4. Any magic seats? I'd like to try Dodonpa in front, Takabisha in front, Eejanaika in front or back, and Fujiyama in both front and back.

5. I see that none of the major coasters operate in the rain.

6. Any rides other than the Big 4 coasters that you would recommend? I am also interested in the Giant Frisbee, the wild mouse, and the Super Scary Haunted Labyrinth thing.

7. Anything worthwhile that I should know. Transportation I think I am okay on from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo.

Any info would help. Thanks a lot!

Do a search on the site, we've had a LOT of questions about Fuji-Q lately, and ones that you've asked have been answered within the last month.

Quick response:

1. Check the website (Japanese) for park hours last week of March as that will help you figure out how bad of crowds to expect. They will also tell you which rides will DEFINITELY be closed.

2. Yes they have a system, you have to buy it in the park and it's $10 per ride skip. It's a terrible system, but needed.

3. Absolutely by the Free Pass if you want to ride all the coasters.

4. The seat that's open, go for it as they like to randomly close rides for no reason. Plus no on in Japan asks for certain seats as almost all rides just assign seats.

5. Yup. That also includes snow, light mist, sunny conditions, when they feel like closing, etc. Oh, and many other rides don't operate in rain either...like the water rides.

6. Thomas Dark Ride...best ride in the park.

7. Just take the bus, easy.

Thanks for the help! Yes, I might take the bus. And the best ride in the park...you're probably right.

One thing though, I can't seem to find hours at all on the website. I found an old version of the site from 2000 (with Double Loop and Zola) that had hours, but I haven't found hours on the new interactive site. The old one only had hours beginning April 1st, so I hope that's changed.

Also, random other question, I am going to Kyushu in May and may have time for a park. Would you recommend Space World or Mitsui Greenland?

Thanks again

^Do NOT use any English sites when prepping for a Japan visit. They are usually horribly outdated. Use the Japanese site and by clicking around and using basic translation tools you should be able to find the info you need.

It Kyushu I would recommend Space World for Quality or Mitsui for screwed up quantity! They're both fun parks.

Yes, Google Chrome is a life-saver! I found the operating hours and bus/train routes and everything. Now I just must organize my tentative group so we can maybe nail a bus reservation (if not, train it is).

Unfortunately the weather doesn't look too good on the day my whole group can go. It looks cloudy, and judging by the 2008 report, that's not good. So, might go individually.

I have not yet found any info on the skip line passes, however. I would certainly consider buying them, expensive or not. A trip report I read talked about them being sold somewhere after the park opened, with limited supplies of them available. Does anyone know anything more about that?
