Plans for a $28 million adrenaline water park with 11 rides and a capacity to host an estimated 300,000 people each year are before Fraser Coast Council.

Dubbed Splash Bay Waterpark, the development is to be situated in Urangan on land flanked by Pulgul St and Charlton Esplanade. The majority of the park will be built on the site of the old Anchorage Caravan Park. A second vacant block that fronts Pulgul St is designated as parking, principally for buses.

Adjoining land is set aside for future expansion.

"This development is worth $28 million but with the flow-on tourism benefits, the effect on the real estate sector and employment, it could be worth $170 million ," Adam Perrier, regional manager of Core Architecture, said.

Mr Perrier indicated orders had already been placed for the anchor rides.

Core Architecture is designing and project managing the development.

The names for the rides include Tornado Water Ride and Tantrum Alley and are suggestive of the type of experience to be offered in the park.

Less challenging rides and experiences will cater to infants.

The Boat Harbour and Sea Shell resorts flank the proposed development site. They contain a total of 49 dwellings ranging from units to bungalows and townhouses.

Robin Dick, manager of the two accommodation houses, praised the project and rejected suggestions that noise or traffic would be an issue. "This would be a big thing for tourism," Mr Dick said. "If you have got a money machine next door it will be great for all our owners, great for all the other types of accommodation in the Bay and will bring jobs. "I hear that there are going to be jobs for 40 lifeguards to look after the 11 rides."

Mr Dick said he had canvassed tenants and owners and there was almost total support for the plan.

That's pretty cool. QT is my local paper and I hadn't even seen this yet.

May I ask Adam how you find these articles from around the world? My only theory is you spend hours on end browsing newspaper websites around the world hoping for something juicy to share.

That's actually about right. I have a list of online bookmarks and search tools that make up over 50 sites I visit daily, plus I handle the press releases the parks and ride development companies send us so that I can aggregate and post them here on Theme Park Review.

The funny thing is, I've been doing all of that daily reading for years! It was only a few years ago that I started actually doing it officially for TPR as a moderator, so at least now my daily reading is more than just a hobby!

The park have been proposed for a while, if I remember correctly the permission to build it was granted over 2 years ago, but with 106 questionable conditions that needed to be adressed, which put the developers of the project.

The most recent info is that they have now put up a sign on the construction site:

But still the developer can't be reached for a comment, so I don't think it will happen this year.

Here's how it will fit in the area:

And here's an overview of the park, it's Proslide exclusive, like most big water parks in Australia are nowadays:

Notice the lack of wave pool and rivers. Lack of any real pool actually.

A few of the towers:

A clone of the badass Tornado 60/Tornado 24 tower at Happy Magic

A smaller Ridehouse

A clone of the tube slides at Darien Lake

TurboMammoth

A custom Mammoth with one Behemoth Bowl 40 (unlike to other "Bowling Alleys" who have two)

A clone of the speed slides at Hurricane Harbor Chicago

4-lane Kraken Racer

Custom KIDZ zone

A pair of dueling Hydromagnetic Pipelines are planned for future expansion

So we'll wee if it happens, but I hope it does.
