Movieguy
Since Halloween's around the corner, I thought maybe we could start something where we talk about any haunted houses or events we love, or really want to see at some point in our lives. Of course, there's the obvious Halloween Horror Nights choice for me, but I also know that Syracuse is a goldmine for haunts here in Upstate NY, and I want to get up there at some point during the season. I see ads for haunted hayrides all the time, and there's even a website for all the haunts in the area. One called Frightmare Farms seems to be a star attraction. http://www.scarycuse.com/ Another that I want to see in person at some point is Netherworld in Atlanta. I saw a walkthrough on youtube, and it was awesome. Even on my laptop, I jumped multiple times!
KBrylczyk
I'll just paste my review of House Of Shock in New Orleans from Reddit and Yelp here. Tonight I was finally able to visit The House Of Shock in New Orleans, LA. I have heard about this place for years but never had a chance to go. It is consistently named one of the top haunted houses in the world year after year, so when I learned I would be in New Orleans for business this Halloween season, I immediately looked into attending this event. For those who don't know, The House Of Shock is an extremely massive haunted house located just outside of New Orleans in an industrial park, far away from any place loud music, explosions, and ridiculous pyrotechnics can get complaints. It is the brain child of a few people, most notably Phil Anselmo, lead singer of Pantera. It has come under fire multiple times from religious groups about one of its infamous scenes, the Church Of Satan. It is huge, it is loud, it is the most ludicrous display of Halloween entertainment I have ever come across. The night begins with a 10 minute stage show located right at the entrance to the haunt. This show involves music loud enough to split eardrums, more pyrotechnics than the Colosseum can hold, and multiple characters getting into fights with each other. This year there were two bickering minions of Satan who were fighting for control over Hell On Earth. Their argument is disrupted by church protestors led by Black Jesus. Fights ensue, explosions erupt, and everyone poos their pants. Once the show is finished, the line is led into the main haunt. I won't go into specifics or details (because it was at least a half hour long and there's simply too much for me to even remember most of it), but I will say that it is definitely the longest and most occupied haunt I have ever attended. Many haunts out there can be on a large scale, but they lack in actors. The House Of Shock had no shortage of actors. They were everywhere. Hiding in every corner, every door, even the occasional fireplace (SCREW THAT GUY!!!!). Simply put, this place is legit and it will scare the poo out of you. I fell on my butt no less than 4 times throughout the haunt out of fright. There are hiding spots aplenty for these actors and they really know how to read their crowd. Without giving too much away, just imagine how you would react when you look down at something small moving by a fireplace, only to have a full grown demon burst out of the fireplace faster than you can blink and grab your legs. Yeah, these guys are good. If you are in the New Orleans area this month I HIGHLY recommend you make the trip to The House Of Shock for a good time. I should also point out that it isn't just a stage show and haunted house. You could easily spend an entire night on site. They have the stage show multiple times throughout the night, the haunt, a booze bar, a fast food bar, a secondary stage for bands, a mechanical bull, and a bunch of other things. The actors aren't confined to the haunt, either. They'll walk around the crowd outside just to mess with people. It definitely lived up to the hype. I just wish they were open on Sundays so I could go again tomorrow night!
