Coaster Curt Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Looking for ideas for the next park to go to. There will be 4 guys driving from the Minneapolis area and will be heading to Cedar Point in a couple weeks, we have also talked about going later this year to another park. What would be some of the top parks for coasters and flats within driving distance? I would say anything under the 12 hour drive time would be fine. Thanks
beatle11 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Six Flags Great America is a short detour off your route to Cedar Point. It's north of Chicago in Gurnee, IL. In terms of big coaster parks, that would be a good bet if you want to head that way again. I would also consider Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. It's within the 12 hours drive, and while it may not be a huge coaster/rides park, it's considered one of the best parks in the US. You could also check out Worlds Of Fun in Kansas City as it's on the way.
Coaster Curt Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 That Six Flags Great America looks nice, maybe we will try to add an extra day on this trip and hit that park as well. Anyone have any idea what kind of time frame a person needs to have to get through the park?
larrygator Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 SFGAm is an all day park. You might be able to navigate it quicker on a slow weekday, but Flash Pass is the only way to guarantee that you cover everyday in half a day. You also asked about flat rides. In my opinion the three parks within 500 miles of Minneapolis with the best run collection of flats are: SFGAm, Indiana Beach and Adventureland (IA).
ernierocker Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 ^What Larry said. If you decided to go to Silver Dollar City, you could easily add Adventureland onto the itinerary as you will go right by it! You could also do a Six Flags Great America/Indiana Beach combo trip although Indiana Beach would be a little out of the way from SFGam. But that would definitely cover your bases for coasters and flats! Hopefully, Indiana Beach gets their problems worked out.
Coaster Curt Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Indiana Beach, will have to take a look at that one as well. Thanks.
