skaunit
Hello all! I am on my honeymoon, and right before the wedding we just found out we are pregnant!!! 5.5 weeks right now. We were planning on spending one day at Universal Studios Hollywood, and I have some questions... It has been probably 10 years since I have been there, and I don't remember any of the rides. I would love a breakdown of what rides are 1st-trimester pregnant safe? AKA, tamer than star tours... Also, what rides have a single rider line? I would like to ride some of the jerkier rides even by myself, but I am not going to make my wife wait for me to go through a whole que... only 10-15 mins. I think were going to try and do a lot of the shows. Anyone with any other advice please feel free! Thanks!
Jew
Here's the official park riders guide All of the major attractions (Studio Tour, Simpsons, ROTM, even JP with the drop brakes) are going to have some violent motion on-par or worse than Star Tours. Only JP and Mummy offer single rider lines. Edited December 31, 2011 by Jew
robbalvey
DISCLAIMER: I'm writing this as an answer "in general", making the assumption you know better not to do any rides or roller coaster that would be unsafe, but because we do get this question quite a bit, the response might seem a bit "harsh", and that's not directed to you personally. At USH, there isn't going to be much she can do at all, outside of the shows, as Joey has pointed out that all the major rides, including the tram tour, have pretty jerky motions. The only real advice I can offer you is this - "Don't take any risks" - I have had people seriously ask me questions like "Well, this roller coaster isn't that fast, it's only a slow kiddie ride or a family coaster, do you think my pregnant wife can ride it?" and my response is always ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Just because a ride may not feel that rough, intense, or jerky to an adult body, that is VERY different to a fetus growing inside your wife. It's going to be very different going to parks and not being able to ride much, but really, outside of some dark rides, omnimover rides, or maybe a "train", there aren't any "rides" she'll be able to do, unless you are ok with potentially permanently damaging your child for life. I have witnessed expecting mothers go on roller coasters, or even worse, smoke and drink while pregnant, and I've heard of miscarriages or kids that were born with serious issues that will affect them the rest of their lives. Take the year off from riding anything, and don't take any risks. That's the best advice I can offer. --Robb "Use common sense. A human life is more important than a stupid roller coaster or amusement park ride." Alvey Edited December 31, 2011 by robbalvey
SharkTums
As a theme park person who was pregnant at one point, I agree with Robb. It's nine months out of your life, don't ride anything, simple. There are even some shows and walk throughs that you shouldn't do while pregnant. To be more specific at Universal, I would avoid all rides, tram tour, and the House of Horrors. Even T2 has a jolt so I would avoid that. You're going to have people tell you; "Oh, don't worry, the car ride to get here was bumpier than " but why chance it at all?
skaunit
thanks guys, I think we are going to forego USH now... we went ahead and upgraded to annual passes for disneyland since theres plenty of fun things to do there and were gonna do that and just see some sights and stuff around SoCal... thanks for the advice. T2 and Shrek have stationary seats available for guests.
Sir Clinksalot
Good call on skipping USH. There are actually some things that you can do at Disney. Most of Fantasyland (I would avoid Toad though), Mansion, Nemo, Train, Shows, Jungle Cruise. I'd avoid Pirates also, just to be safe. As was said above, it's 9 months out of your life. My wife and I went to SFMM before she knew she was pregnant with our son and were actually kind of worried if she'd done any damage. Haven't noticed anything yet (except for the normal almost 14 year old stuff).
