When I took my cruise a few years back I noticed the pools on the cruise ship where empty when we first boarded and where full most of the cruise. A few times at port they where also empty. I assumed this was because putting the ship in port may cause it to spill over to much from the turns and such.

The question I have is. Do they fill them with ocean water (somewhat filtered like Thunder Canyon at CP) or do they have storage tanks on the ship with water? I never went in one during my cruise to find out. Not because I am a cleanness freak, but because I was either to drunk or to hung over to go in. I also never even thought about this until after the cruise was long over.

It's sea water. Some ships just filter the water, while others will Desalinate the water.
