This happened a few days ago at knoebels. My girlfriend and i decided to spend the day at knoebels which happened to be the day before the east coast bash. Unknowingly the TPR trip "road to cedar point" happened to be there. I only realized they were there after I arrived at the park. Now for me i see the TPR regulars kind of like celebrities and throughout the day i happened to be pointing out to my girlfriend who they were, but i feel like i made a mistake. My girlfriend happens to be a fan of the piers videos (she loves British accents). Well we happened to be walking through Knoebles and we saw piers. Out loud i said "hey is piers" so i could bring it to my girlfriend attention. The problem is he happened to be no more then 3 feet away from me, and he heard me. Piers turned around and said hello, as he was saying hello he realized he didn't know me and gave me a strange look.

Now the reason why i tell you this story is because i felt really awkward not introducing myself after saying hi, and i felt like a stalker. I wanted to introduce myself at east coast bash but still felt to awkward to say anything. I figure i would make a public statement to let people know im retarded or something. so if he reads this..My Bad... and i feel like a dick.

Inspired by this touching recollection of one's day with TPR, I've created a little instruction manual for live encounters with TPR "celebrities." This is for anyone, should you ever come in contact with a live TPR member. Please feel free to print out and carry with you.

First Step: Approach TPR "celebrity."

Second Step: Make eye contact, smile, and extend right hand for handshake.

Third Step: Recite this phrase: "Hello, I'm ___________. I post on/view TPR on a regular basis (my screen name is _______), and I recognized you from various trip reports and/or videos. It's nice to meet you."

Fourth Step: Continue conversing at will. (Suggested topics include: "I'm a fan of yours," "I really enjoy your trip reports," and "I'd like to buy you a beer in appreciation of your awesomeness.")

Fifth Step: At conclusion of conversation, it is recommended to close with the following statement: "Well, it was very nice meeting you. Perhaps I'll see you around again sometime, on the TPR boards, or maybe even a TPR trip! Take care, and enjoy the rest of your day at ________ (Disclaimer: this phrase may not be appropriate at places such as King's Island, SFA, etc. Feel free to substitute the name of the State rather than the park name)."

Sixth Step: Shake hands, walk away.

I hope this helps.

For some reason, this thread reminds me of the scene in Swingers where Jon Favreau's character gets the phone number of the girl in the bar and then proceeds to screw everything up by calling the girl's answering machine over and over.

Seriously, don't worry about it. While it might of seemed like an awkward situation for you, Piers probably would of not remembered it or would of just shaken it off in his head. But honestly making a thread like this, is what has made this whole thing awkward.

The only advice I can offer you is to shrug it off and next time just be yourself. Remember, we are all coaster enthusiasts on here, so you already share a common interest with all of us.

Sixth Step: Shake hands, walk away.

This is the most important step. Remember the "celebrities" are there to enjoy themselves with friends; tagging along can make the meeting go from good to awkward very quickly.

just buy piers a drink next time and it will all be good

Unfortunately alcohol is forbidden at Knoebels, so Piers was not his normal self. And you have to remember, he is SHY!
