MJL12785 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I'm planning on a trip to Cedar Point this May. I was thinking Wed, May 25th - Sat, May 28th and leaving on Sunday. CP opening day is May 14th. They told me the weather is a little unpredictable in early May. I cannot go in June, my son has finals and cannot afford to take him out of school this close to finals. I'm not going in the summer time. Ideally, this is the best time for me to go. It is going to take me about 7.5 hrs to drive there. I was planning on driving Wed, spending Thurs and Friday in the park, possibly Sat, than drive home on Sun. Is this a good or bad time to go? I can handle waiting 45 min - 1hr tops but I don't want to waste my day with two kids waiting in line 1.5 - 3hrs waiting time. How is the weather this time of year? Does memorial day weekend get busy? If busy on Sat, should I drive on Tuesday and spend 3 weekdays at the park and drive home on Sat? I have to plan vacation time and other things as well and use as little as vacation time as possible. Is it better to stay at CP for $110 - $150 a night or are there good hotels in the area where it could be a 20 minute drive or closer but only be $80 a night. This will be our 1st trip to Cedar Point and after driving this long I would like to be able to make it the best time possible any suggestions would be of great help. Thanks in advance. MIke
Groteslurf Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Hi, We visited CP end of May 3 years ago. We were there on a Monday & Tuesday, the week before Memorial Day. TTD wasn't open yet during early entry time so we rode MF and Maverick, because both had much longer lines (approx 1 hour) during the rest of the day. TTD during the day had 1 hour wait. Front row even took us 90 minutes. Magnum and Mantis had 30-45 minutes waits during the day. All other coasters were walk ons. We went to ride TTD again during the last hour before closing and managed to ride it 3 more times in 1 hour. Waiting line stays open till the park closes so we got our last ride of the day with a 5 minutes walk.
chadster Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Hi there, I have been to CP opening week in May a few times and the crowds are light to non existent with the exception of the school's that come out. Of course the top three coaters will have managebale lines, but mostly everything is as close to walk on as you can get. If you don't have a season pass, staying at one of CP's hotels will give you access to the park one hour early. Saturdays are typcially the busiest day of the week, not sure how CP's are in May as I try hard to avoid Saturday's like the plaque at any park. They also offer package deals, again if you don't have a Season Pass, that give you a generous discount on admission if staying in their hotel. Normally I stay around the Cleveland area and drive out but that's only because I've either had business that direction or want to check out things in the Cleveland area. Most of the hotels in Sandusky aren't top tier but will get the job done.
Carnage Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Weather at that time of the year is unpredictable. I've been going around that time every year for about the last 15 years. Last year was summer like warm, but that was by far the warmest weather I've ever had in May. Typically it will be cold in the mornings/evenings, and maybe get a little warm in the afternoon. I always plan for jackets and warm clothes. If it warms up you can head back to your hotel room, or stash your jackets in a locker.
