Riders got stuck Thursday night when the Sky Glider stopped working on opening day of the Wisconsin State Fair.

Fair organizers got the Sky Glider back operating on Friday afternoon.

The West Allis Fire Department moved trucks onto the State Fair Grounds, according to Patrice Harris with the fair. The department has been trained for this type of evacuation.

More than 150 people had to be rescued. The last person was taken off the Sky Glider at 11:12 p.m. Thursday.

There are 160 cars to the Sky Glider and organizers believe it was at about 40 percent capacity when it stopped.

Harris said there was a slight power surge after 8 p.m. and when the power came back, something in the motor didn't align right. Instead of waiting to see if the motor could be fixed, organizers called in the fire department.

No one was hurt.

For reference (because clearly it was too much effort on the editor's part), it's a Sky Bucket ride.

And of course, let's not forget the reader's thoroughly knowledgable insight & comments:

The State Fair is run by idiots. They didn't know what was happening or what to do.People couldn't get to their cars, because they couldn't cross the path of the sky glider.10:00 p.m. and it seemed there was no leadership in place. The trams on the racetrack were being run by surly people who didn't seem aware of the situation. All these people seemed ok with the fact that they couldn't get out easily, a credit to the people in attendance. The concept of preparedness did not exist.Fire them all.

If what olguyoakcreek says is true, civil disobedience is in order. Ignore the cops. Ignore fair officials.

Certainly getting people off the ride is a top priority and it sounds like the fire department performed that task with no injuries.

BUT not letting people get to their cops is BS. One civilian against one cop is not an even match. Five hundred angry fair goers who are in the right, however, will win everytime.

DAWG - Your comment to incite a riot just because you have to wait awhile to get to your car due to a rescue operation in progress is REALLY ignorant. It's a perfect example of the arrogant, selfish entitlement attitude of some people. Didn't you ever learn patience and understanding? You know, just chill and have another beer till they're done.

I was up there last night with my 3 and 4 yr olds. We were stuck for 2.5 hrs. I was lucky because I brought pajamas and a pull-up for them to change into incase we were there (at the fair) longer than expected. We were next to Saz's exhaust vent which kept us fairly warm in our shorts and tank tops and we had a great band below us on the miller stage. However, those two things did prevent us from hearing any of the announcements over the loud speaker and anyone yelling up from the ground.

And once we got off, we couldn't even get to the bathroom becuz it was blocked off. It was like we needed a sign posted on our foreheads along with my 2 kids hold their privates to get through to the toilet. And all we got was comp ticket for another day and our money from the glider back. I was cold. I wanted a sweatshirt!

This situation could have been prevented. I was working at the Fair and was told that ether the electric motor failled or lost power. At the Milwaukee County Zoo they Gasoline motor and attach a belt to the gear box incase they loss electrical power. The this moves the cable along so they could unload the tram. I would sue If I was stuck. Bad emergency planing......
