I'm back

So far, I've finished the (rough) design and trackwork, but needs some extreme tweaking. I saw -20.4g at one point

It's completely hand built, and (will) include a water splashdown (I have no idea how to work with 3ds so just imagine that there is one

It has an airtime hill right after the first drop then back-to-back immelmans. after is a hill with wayyyyy to much airtime (-20.4gs) and a brake run. one short drop into another brake run then the water splashdown.

Piccys!

I'll also provide a track link at each update.

Update:

I finished the Trackwork, while there are some incredibly tiny moments of red g's, those only happen for split-seconds even on 25% speed. The track is smooth and non jerky (imo, I'm far from a NoLimits expert!) and just looks incredible with the short car flying over the immelmans. Changed hold brake to hold farther down the drop. Fixed immelman jerkyness fixed the -20.4g hill into a safe one. Added water for the water splashdown.(Terraformer ) Hopefully by tomorrow I should have the supports done! Relying on tons of pics of SheiKra and Griffon for this one

Pics! (Yes these are JPEG's)

Yay. After hours of staring at B&M DM's and frustrating clicking, I have finished! It's as perfected as I can make it. Its smooth, fast, and FUN!!!

Criticism is MORE than welcome

Splashdown POV

You have the general idea, but take a look at pictures of the drops of other dive machines.

The drop is gradual, and the ninety degree section is quite short.

Also, mess around with your heartlining. Go into display, show heartline, and it's the little yellow line.

Take a look at this:

The track rotates around the heartline, thus making the forces on the riders a lot less.

You've got the basics down, it's just a matter of mastering the program. Keep up the good work.

Posted

^ I always have the heartline turned on, I don't use it for its intended purpose though.

I might start messing around with it though, I've wanted to incorporate heartline rolls into my coasters but I wasn't sure how to do it. I'm gonna try messing with it though.

Posted

^Oh it's not just for rolls. It's to make every single centimeter of track that much less laterally forceful. I haven't downloaded yet as I don't really see the need just yet. Going red literally means nothing by the way. It is much more reliable to look at numbers.

Force guidelines:

Lateral:+/-1.o (+/- .3 for dive machines)

Vertical: +4.5/-1.5

Acceleration: +1.7/-1.7

These are just my guidelines for coasters in general. Because the cars of dive machines are over twice as wide as floorless but have the same heartline, the lateral forces need to be very, very low to lower intensity for the outer seats.

Check to make sure there is plenty of room for the wide dive machine cars to navigate the course safely.

You're also over supporting abit. The picture of Griffon shows that the supports have a very large diameter and are far and few apart. It would not be uncalled for to use the largest size of tubing. Also take note of the 45 degree angle supports going outward at 30 degrees from the section of track (end of holding brake) at the place where the track and supports are perpendicular. Most of the supports have a 'bridge/tier' connecting them to the track.

I say get rid of the tunnel.

You've got the general idea of it but it's the specifics where the weakest link is now. Keep up the good work! You've made vast improvements on some of the supports!

Posted

^Thanks for the input.

I'd like to learn how to incorporate heartlining into my coasters, but I'm not sure how to do it...

I did change a few parts so that the dive machine cars navigate safely through the course, but my G's are awful. (is there anyway to get max/negative G's stats without running it in 25%?)

Now that I think about it I did oversupport on the lift drop part.

The tunnel is gone

Well just last week me and friends went to Elitch's and on the way there, we went through every track I had created. I can see the drastic improvement over time. A coaster I made a year ago I thought was top notch is now utter crap compared to my new ones. I'm excited to learn more and get better especially since I have people to tell me what to improve on. I'm not sure what to make next, I might just go with a custom Arrow looper. Sounds fairly easy plus I need more practice on creating corkscrews...I'm awful at them.

Once again thanks alot for the criticism, I find it invauble.

Whoa, Wait! Don't stop this project yet! You can incorporate the heartline with Newton2! It's a steep but short learning curve to get awesome coasters that will always be heartlined. You can visually see what your doing with the sliders and it works great if your on the lazy side (why do you think I have it?). It's free and is one of the best and most powerful tools ever!

P.S. No way to see max G's but Newton2 lets you control them and shapes the track around the forces and bankings. There are tutorials from the guy who made it on Youtube! His username is Entropy or something like that and he tells you how to make elements quickly and easily. Start watching #1 and go all the way through to the last one. It gets the ball rolling for you!

Posted

^Alright. I'll give it a shot. Sounds like an awesome program. I sat through a playlist of of 10 lessons (@10 min each) for Sibelius 6 when I first got it. I'm sure I can handle a few videos

Well, I'm going to download that and try it out. Thanks! i'll let you know how it goes.

Posted

^ $600 I think.

Well... i'm really impressed with this program. It looks like an easier to use elementary with more indepth building. I'm gonna finish watching these. Thanks for pointing me to this

Posted

Eh, Its fun to mess around with. I don't have the full version, I don't need to save scores. Just enjoy writing songs and seeing what I can come up with.

Posted

I can play violin pretty much equally well. I've been trying to teach myself piano, But it hasn't been working out. My 2 hands can't be doing separate things. It just doesn't work for me

Posted

^Yet you can play the viola and violin? That's two different things as well. You're bowing and moving your fingers to create chords. A piano is played by two hands playing chords and feet adding effects. How accomplished are you at the bowed instruments?

Posted

Yes. Well I've watched almost all the tutorials, It looks like an incredible program. I'm definitely going to incorporate this into my designs.

Posted

Fun coaster! I really liked the concept of two Immelmanns in a row! Keep working, I know it can be frustrating sometimes, but your coasters will progressively get better and better.

Regarding Newton2, if you haven't come across them already, here are some tutorials that helped me out A LOT. Good luck and happy coaster building!

Posted

^Keep those tutorials saved. You will be going back to them A LOT. I've been using Newton2 for about 6 months now and I still find myself going back and saying "Wait... how did he do that again???"
