During the month of February the Tennessee Aquarium is having College Days: Show your college ID and you and your whole family get in for half price. Since my husband just happens to be a college student we decided to take our girls. So I took the day off last Friday and we headed up to Chattanooga. I'm not sure why the first few pictures say 2/18. It was Friday, 2/19.

We'd only been once before, when our oldest was just 5 months old, so it was completely new for the girls. They really had a great time! The otters were their favorite and we bought two beanie otters for them to take home. New favorite animals.

On to the pictures. My camera battery died right after the penguins, so everything after that was taken with my phone and the picture quality is lacking. Note to self: Charge camera the night before.

And me taking pictures. I'm so useful!

We ate lunch at Cheeburger Cheeburger before we went in the aquarium. I turned the flash off so as not to annoy the people sitting elbow to elbow with us, so that's why it's orange. Seriously, the tables were too close together!

Danny loves the panoramic mode on my new camera.

Bridge outside the aquarium. There are all kinds of little things to climb on around the buildings.

Love my new 10x zoom!

First we did the River Journey. It's the bigger exhibit. Do you see the seahorses?

Sea dragon.

We found Nemo!

Obligatory "inside" the tank picture.

Otters are absolutely too fast to photograph!

101_0090.jpg.f524196f361eda2306107e776a561be1.jpg

They were climbing up on this rock and jumping, showing off for their audience. It was impossible to get a good picture. But they are so fun to watch!

What's that?

That's a trout.

What's that?

That's a trout...

"Whoa, Dude. Mister Turtle is my father."

I can't think of anything cute to say about the ray.

He was actually a little guy, I just got a close-up.

101_0103.jpg.0f12c4ab3a77f20fb081cea2d97a2705.jpg

The girls were fascinated by the blue frog.

101_0107.jpg.8f0384956ba8b7f9fb1940e1e62d61fc.jpg

Sturgeon feel very strange; like stiff leather. Weird. The girls were afraid to touch them.

I took this picture purely for immature amusement.

Moving on to the Ocean Journey building. On the top floor of this building there is a Tropical section, which included parrots.

101_0115.jpg.c5c656c51e62f32c8db65afd67cffbd3.jpg

Rays are soft and slimy. The girls were afraid to touch them, too.

101_0117.jpg.d1fff17ca314aefa08f9a51587cb1c3a.jpg

They were fascinated by them, though!

101_0118.jpg.bebd8bcc6ec206143b12eeeed570772e.jpg

Also on the top floor of the Ocean Journey building is a butterfly garden. The girls were afraid the butterflies would land on them. We had to get through there quickly.

101_0119.jpg.2c1f97dfb0200054b4212804c8fb9e3c.jpg

I have no idea what kind of butterflies these are.

101_0120.jpg.7091dceeac95dfc1c368783340d4cf00.jpg

This picture looks like a know a thing or two about photography. It was taken on auto. My camera is that awesome.

101_0121.jpg.6cc004ded5c107880ece1b49d3172452.jpg

I could have stayed in there taking pictures of butterflies for the rest of the day.

101_0126.jpg.d9bdf274bd3cbef91cfd73f77a09e6c7.jpg

The penguins were really fun to watch, too!

101_0129.jpg.646c1bef34350ba074c2e4381323c102.jpg

The penguin got red-eye.

101_0131.jpg.5d46f6d3967a70892d5de89c2e3d146a.jpg

They had little colored bands on their wings that coordinated with a chart on the wall so you could find out what each penguin's name was.

1532763226_SharkCage1.jpg.b4043e6dec21c6c3537707c929e3f343.jpg

From this point on the pictures were taken with my phone. They had to pose in the shark cage.

1455311426_SharkCage2.jpg.310ea1de368d2bc3a2a46e243e2d5639.jpg

This was their "act like a shark" pose.

Shark.jpg.66830d2c883e18d85ec3a499abaf4d3d.jpg

Da dum, da dum, da dum...

1064257011_Bigjelly.jpg.5cec9ae3064dc77daf2f2287815fe210.jpg

They had a big jellies exhibit.

Jelly.jpg.392ce78909dd47a85f4d9c10d505486d.jpg

I'm not sure what kind this is...umbrella jelly or something like that.

264707698_Upsidedownjelly.jpg.b7489648dbef455a3594144b38a65f4e.jpg

These were upside down jellies.

10223889_SeaCavern.jpg.b1f08d701f197ccb8f84d0b92e54dcd1.jpg

This picture is extremely dark, but this was in the undersea cavern portion. And that's it for the Ocean Journey. It's mostly one big tank with lots of viewing areas. And since I didn't have my camera I didn't take many pictures with my phone.

101_0135.jpg.83563433516d277b31cb75e0e7f748cd.jpg

After the camera charged we took pictures of the exhausted girls! Notice the otter.

101_0136.jpg.00e836190c9c0184383305cda886b7d4.jpg

They fell asleep a lot faster that night! All that walking wore them out!

Looks like all of you had a great time. Thanks for sharing.

Now for the obligatory question: what kind of camera do you have? I don't recall seeing its brand or specs in your report.

Thanks y'all! We had to distinguish between the two otters by tying the ribbons around them!

Sorry, I guess I should have told you what kind of camera it is. It's a Kodak Z950. I know nothing about specs and such. I just researched highly rated cameras and the Z950 was one of them. Here's one of the reviews that I found that really sold me on it: http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=4085&review=kodak+easyshare+z950.

I just wanted a good point-and-shoot and this one delivers. It also has manual controls, but I have no idea how to use them yet!

^ I like to know the details about cameras, cars, and various technical stuff, and now that I know the make and model of your camera, I can check it out on my own. Thanks for filling me in.
