Photo TR: Fright Fest 2009 @ Wild Waves Theme Park

Recommended Posts

At Wild Waves Theme Park, Fright Fest has been going on since Six Flags took over the park in 2000, and still keeps on going (like many of the other parks that used to be owned by Six Flags that are now owned by PARC). For the past few years, we have been going to Fright Fest for Halloween. This year, we did it again, but there were a few improvements. Firstly, I FINALLY got my ride on I-5 Dive, the parks 125 ft tall Skycoaster ride. I have to say, for $10 (for the last night of operation season they lower the price) it is well worth it. Secondly, I noticed some newly painted handrails. Thirdly, a new maze and a childrens Trick-or-Treat village were added. And, finally, Timber Axe wasn't open. Then again, it IS Wild Waves, and it takes Zamperla up to 3 months to send parts if needed, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Now, onto the photos! (Which my friend Bo has been waiting impatiently to see)

They should do this more often when it gets dark, not just at night!

The ride-ops are showing some Halloween spirit!

(Quick fact: Before being built @ Wild Waves in 1997, Wild Thing originally sat at Rocky Point Amusement Park in Warwick, Rhode Island as the Corkscrew. (real creative naming here ;)) When the park shut down in 1995, they put it up for auction. In 1996, Wild Waves won the bid, and installed the ride in 1997. So the coaster was already 20 years old when I rode it for the first time in 2004!)

The brake calipers on this ride actually slow the ride down slightly as it exits the station. IDK why, but they do. You hear them in the back.

They call it I-5 Dive because it's next to the Freeway, it's a Skycoaster, and it rhythms!

You brought back some memories! When I was a kid, we use to go to Rocky Point Park every weekend in the summer! The Corkscrew was right by the main entrance of the park. They had 2 Coasters, one Arrow & one Schwarzkopf. Can't forget about the last big ride install they did before closing the doors, Intamin Freefall, crazy when your a little kid riding that for the first time! Not bad for a family fun park. The best thing about Rock Point was for $12 bucks you could ride all the rides!!!

...but there were way too many pictures, especially blurry ones, it couldve really done without those.

Quoted For Truth.

The difference between a good PTR and a bad one, is the pictures. It's not always the captions.

Blurry photos are a wasted of bandwith, and people's time. As are photos you can't see anything in.

Good PTR's are not easy to do. You need good pictures, the right amount of them to tell the story, and decent captions. Uploading every picture off your camera is the lazy way out. And it shows.

^Well said.

(Quick fact: Before being built @ Wild Waves in 1997, Wild Thing originally sat at Rocky Pier Amusement Park in Warwick, Rhode Island as the Loop Corkscrew. (real creative naming here ) When the park shut down in 1995, they disassembled it and put it up for auction the next year. Wild Waves won the bid, and installed the ride in 1997. So the coaster was already 20 years old when I rode it for the first time in 2004!)

Close, but not quite.

First off, the name of the park was Rocky Point Park.

Second, as far as I can remember the ride was actually just called the Corkscrew, even though RCDB lists it as LoopScrew. I just finished watching a documentary on the park and everyone in it called it corscrew.

Finally, the ride was not dismantled before the auction. The auction occured with all the rides still standing, and the auctioneer driving around in a truck to auction off the rides in front of the actual rides.
