mpclinton22 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Hi Everyone! So my family has been planning on going to Cedar Point this weekend for a couple of weeks now. Now that it's close enough to when we are planning on going I have been periodically checking the forecast and to my dismay there is a 40-50% chance of rain Saturday and Sunday. I live in Connecticut so it's about a 9 hour drive. Do you think its still a good idea to book the hotel and all even with the chance of rain, or do you think I should abandon the idea (as there are no other weekends left in this season that will work). It says that Saturday there is a 40% chance Thundershowers and on Sunday there is a 40% chance of showers. What do you all think? Thanks!
SharkTums Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Can you give it another day or two before booking stuff and deciding? Obviously Cedar Point's rain policy leaves a lot to be desired, but weather forecasting also seems to be getting worse lately so I'd wait a bit longer for the forecast to settle down.
mpclinton22 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 Yeah I can wait until probably tomorrow at the latest, so I'll definitely do that. But speaking of Cedar Points rain policy, what exactly is it? Do they close most rides with even a little rain or do they try to keep stuff open as long as possible? I've never been before in the rain so have no personal experience with a rainy cedar point!
Jds03 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 It sort of depends if you are willing to take the risk or not. While Cedar fair parks have a history of being bad with the rain, On the positive side, the lower attendance that results from an overcast means the lines are short enough to get close to the same amount of rides you could get on a busy day, in a much shorter time period, Which is important in this case because that short time period is your window of opportunity where the management isn't closing rides because of rain. If I were you, I would urge your family to stay at Cedar Point's indoor water park (Castaway Bay), that way if the park is running terribly; your family will still have a good time and wouldn’t be reluctant to make another 9 hour drive in the future.
dandaman Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I've been on 20% chance days with neverending storms, and 90% chance days with sunlight the entire trip. Lake Erie can serve up some rather unpredictable weather; I suggest you go anyway. Normally I'd suggest as Elissa said -- waiting a day or two and seeing how the forecast improves/deteriorates before booking -- but it IS a Halloweekend and I'd wager the sooner you book, the better.
scooterdoug Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 ^Very true. Lake Erie stirs up whatever weather it feels like, weather forecasts be damned! I'd go with Elissa's advice: wait a day or two to see how the forecast changes. Personally, if that was the only time I could go, I would chance it. Aside from poor weather forecasts keeping crowds away, Sundays in the fall can be some amazingly low-crowd days. -Doug
