Simon Baynham Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Hi TPR You might be interested in this park/coaster Q&A page: http://www.rollercoastermedialibrary.com/Andy%20Shine%20Question%20Page.html Well, reading through it may burn 5 minutes! Si
deathbydinn Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 DEAR ANDY SHINE... "Some parks operate a pay-extra, queue-jumping system. Care to share your opinions?" ["P. Jed" 14 October] ANDY SHINE REPLIES... "Hello P. Jed. I once purchased a Fast Pass without knowing what one was. While at Phantasialand (Germany), it was suggested I purchase a pass so I might experience Black Mamba with the minimum of fuss. I felt acutely awkward, guilty, and selfish jumping the queue - and I wouldn't do it again. I know how frustrated I'd feel seeing others jump the line, and I think about those I angered and shudder to imagine what they thought of me. Next time, I'll either wait patiently, or go queue for something less popular. In my opinion, the Fast Pass is tailored almost exclusively for wealthy, arrogant, thrill-seeking egotists who think they're something special!" WTF? Fast passes are amazing and he's complaining about them? I complain about parks that don't have them. Fast passes make park visits even better! DEAR ANDY SHINE... "What are your thoughts on 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,' at Islands of Adventure (Orlando, Florida)?" ["Astor" 18 September] ANDY SHINE REPLIES... "Hello Astor. I have zero interest in Harry Potter. If he were a competent wizard, he would correct his eyesight and have realised the particle transporter. Or, maybe he prefers having a broom handle rammed between his cheeks? I applaud IoA's castle theming, but as soon as a multi-million dollar sponsorship is associated, I'm repulsed. In my opinion, theming should be an innocent delight: (Black Mamba, Phantasialand / Nemesis, Alton Towers / Flume, Tripsdrill). Potter-land appears more shopping mall than amusement/rides area, and the tie-in makes me uncomfortable to the point of securing my wallet. I object to being conditioned to fund and endorse a product I have no respect for. No, Harry Potter! It isn't a 5-headed dog. It's a handful of executives slavering to the sound of ringing tills. Installing shops (for executives' immediate gain) in preference to new rides for visitors' enjoyment? Such selfish, greedy wizards!" Again WTF? Parks are going to do things that will bring them money. This is like complaining that Six Flags uses Warner Brothers characters. This guy is insane. He's a coaster enthusiast that, likes to wait in lines, is negative about coasters, and complains about "ghetto" parks and parks that are adding new rides and landscaping. He's freaking crazy.
