the ghost Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 My friend and I went to knotts yesterday and we had an awesome time. We went to the park at about 1:00 and our first ride of the day was sierra sidewinder,(credit #1 of the day) as both of us had never been on it. The crews(at pretty much every ride besides accelerator/ghostrider were kind of slow) so we had anout 20-30 people in front of us and waited about 15 to 20 minutes. We had a pretty good first ride, but nothing compared to what was to come, there were two trains running, and one train had a back car(we waited for the back each ride) and we got the less spiny car. We then headed over to silver bullet where we waited for one to two trains for a ride. The ride was as forceless as ever, but still fun, and there is a nice pop of air before the second final corkscrew. We also decided to ride the mine train ride(calico mine, I think its called) as we had both never been on it not during haunt. The "conductor" spoke in a country accent was not comprehensible, and the ending is just so WTF its awesome(Oh no, dynamite) We then ate at Johnny Rockets, and the meal was pretty good(the shakes there kick ass) and I rode riptide, but my friend does not like topspins(he called it a flip ride, but I'm assuming that's what he meant as riptide is a topspin) I love these kind of rides because my body does not know how to react to the extremely slow and really fast inversions. We then rode accelerator, and I had never ridden in the back before. I have never got such ejector airtime in my life, in fact, I think it is now tied with apollo, and tatsu for my number 1(it was #4) In the video it looks like we are trying to stand up going over the tophat, and trying to fly after the vertical drop, it was running sooo well. My friend then decided to conquer his fear of Supreme Scream(its good that i am an enthusiast, cause when i asked what could happen he said a girl got her legs cut off, and i explained why that would not happen) It was fun, but I seem to remember it being a lot more intense than it actually was. The smaller one at the OC fair seems much more intense and is my favorite ride at the fair. We then headed into fiesta village and rode la revolution(huss giant frisbee, i think) and we also rode Montezuma revenge, which was only ok, but later on(a little later in the tr) it was running amazing. We also rode Jaguar, and it seemed like a lot of the original theming was gone(there were very few skulls) can anyone confirm the theming being gone. I did not like sharing a seat and there was no airtime. We then decided to take another ride on sierra sidewinder, and we barely spun this time, and it was the least favorite ride of the four we took. We also took another ride on silver bullet, which was slightly better in the back(a little force) We headed into Calico for a ride on the second row front car of the bronze ghostrider train(silver is my favorite for some reason) it was a rough, but not really painful, but the bar was down pretty far for my friend, but Ghostrider always seems better at night, and it always seems to be running best during haunt, imo. We rode boomerang cause my friend had never ridden it,and pony express was closed. It sucked. We then went back on Accelerator for another back seat ride, it kicked ass, but was not as good as the first ride. We then rode sierra sidewinder(its so fun) and we waited a few extra trains and it finally paid off, not only did we have the spinny back seat, but we also had very different weight on the other side of the car. We spun insanely, and the ride was actually pretty forceful.(i now love mack spinners) We then went on la revolution again and then waited 5 trains for a back seat on monte, it was worth it as when you come back from the station we got tons of floater air(my#2 coaster in the park after accelerator) We went to timber mountain log ride to beat the heat, and it was lamer than i remember(its been a while since i rode the non haunt version) the animal statues with the sound effects were kind of lame. It was getting dark so we decided to ride pony express(credit 2 of the day) it was a fun ride(the launch was actually a little faster than expected and caught me off guard) but was just kind of weird. It really was too short and not nearly as fun as sierra side winder, we got two rides in because we were waiting for it to get darker for ghostrider. We then rode Ghostrider, and waited for the back, even with the trims, there was still airtime abundant(especially on the hill following the first drop) My friend was starting to get kind of tired, so we rode silver bullet and sierra sidewinder again, and then got amped and left. It was a fun day. The coasters are fun, but the park is not great. It lacks atmosphere, pony express had very little theming. The crews were generally not that great, the ride ops were annoying and were occasionally texting) and the park needs to refurbish the mine/log ride, they are classics, and in no way should they leave, but some of the faces are scarier than haunt monsters. Knotts original charm in now pretty much 100% gone(the straw that broke the camels back was replacing the calico western show on calico stage with a skate show) If you can read this you do not need glasses Thanks for reading. Ride ratings for the day 1.Accelerator 2.Montezuma's Revenge(back row) 3. Sierra Sidewinder(back row, super spinny car) 4.Ghostrider/Silver Bullet 5.Jaguar 6.Pony Express 7. Boomerang
Top Thrill Dragster Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 We then rode Ghostrider, and waited for the back, even with the trims, there was still airtime abundant(especially on the hill following the first drop) My friend was starting to get kind of tired, so we rode silver bullet and sierra sidewinder again, and then got amped and left. It was a fun day. GhostRider does not have trims, only a MCBR which is never used as trims.
Stoksy Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 We also decided to ride the mine train ride(calico mine, I think its called) Yeah, it is Calico Mine. Is Calico Mine, similar to a haunted mansion ride, just a mine train? (In other words, is it an actual mine, goes underground, or is it covered in scenery). I've never been to Knott's before, however I would like to go.
Gav Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Sort of like a dark ride inside a mountain that goes slowly past scenery, it is all above ground. Did you ever ride the Eureka Mountain Mine Train at Dreamworld? It is similar to how that was (But not a roller coaster)
the ghost Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 ^^^ Then that brake run is very stopping, you used to get completely thrown off the mcbr, bu now it is not nearly as fast.
