Hi everyone,

Having read in the Scandi reports how amazing Balder is at the moment, I'm going to Liseberg on the 13th August to experience it for myself. I have one day in the city and the other at the park. What is the best way to get from the airport to the city centre or Liseberg and what should I see during my day in the city??

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Take the Flygbussarna bus would be my advice (from either Gothenburg City or Landvetter - Gothenburg has two airports). The Korsvägen stop is right next to Liseberg, for example - although you'll probably want to find a stop close to your hotel... Liseberg is kind-of part of Gothenburg city centre (which is just one of the many reasons why it's so amazing!) so you may either be walking distance away depending on where your hotel is, or there is actually a Liseberg bus / tram stop too if you're further out.

Ride Balder later in the day for the most amazing coaster experience ever!!!

Not sure what to recommend you see in the city... apart from Balder!!!

Edit : p.s. You'll, I'm sure, find your own favourite seat on Balder - but my advice would be to avoid the wheel seats (i.e. 3rd row in each car) for a smoother ride and to avoid getting progressively stapled in. My favourite was the 2nd/middle row of the back car, but it's personal preference at the end of the day...! It's great regardless of where you sit, really! Plus even first thing in the morning it was running well... it's just that by the evening it was INSANE!

Thanks!!! My hotel is just across the road from the park so that bus sounds perfect. Thanks for the advice on Balder too. I'm planning to ride it several times so the smoother I can get it, the better.

It depends on to what Airport you are arriving at if you can get of at Korsvägen or not.

If you go to Gothenburg Landvetter Airport then the bus will stop there.

But if you fly with RyanAir then you end up at Gothernburg City Airport and you have to change to a tram at Gothenburg Central Station to get to Korsvägen, it's tram no 4 (Green) towards "Mölndal", it's an 8 minute ride and costs 25 SEK in each direction...

Even if I live pretty close to Gothenburg then I don't have any ideas on what to do, since I really haven't done any of the tourist stuff...

But have fun at Liseberg

Well, an English Troll coming to Gothenburg. How fun.

I lived in Gothenburg for about 12 years, yet don't know much turism or what sites are special. I think the language itself can be quite fun (Swedish that is and its many dialects).

Anyways, if you are gonna see Gothenburg I would suggest you buy the appropriate transportation tickets. There are lots of varieties depending on what it is you need. There are Monthly cards, Yearly cards, Rebate cards, Day cards and many more. Plus a fun little coupon system.

If you are gonna spend 2 days in Gothenburg, and one day is gonna be spent only in Liseberg then I would suggest one of these cards called a "Maxirabbatt/Hundrakort", which is a substitute to 100 SEK. Instead of paying 25 SEK when you start a journey on a tram/buss you pay something like 17 SEK. Oh wait... I heard there was gonna be some kind of change with these cards, but can't remember when this was gonna happen.

But with these cards that I know, you put them into a green box and punch a 2. 2 means an adult traveling within Gothenburg. From the moment you have done this (started your trip) you are allowed to change trams & busses for free within 90 minutes by putting your card into the Green box and pressing the top-most (white) button.

If you are wondering how much money is left or when did the trip start, the information is printed on the back of the card.

Alternatively, you can get yourself a 3 day card for 130 SEK where you can hop as many trams and busses as you like for 72 hours.

The good thing is that once you buy one of these cards you can "fill" it again later with a "Period", i.e. 24 hour, 72 hour, Month, Year. You can do this until they change the system (or the chip inside rusts ).

PS. Need a guide? A "local" to hang out with?

^^ Sorry - I didn't know that there was more than one airport. I'm flying Ryanair so it's Gothenburg City Airport.

^ Having someone to hang out with would be great. I'll be at the entrance to Liseberg at opening time on the 12th of August - going on the 12th gives me much more park time than the 13th cos we fly mid-evening on the 23th.
