alexinla Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Long story short. I missed West Coast Bash and the Terminator opening at my homepark because I got a job offered in my hometown Frankfurt/Germany that I had to take.. Frankfurt is basically a banktown(only European town with a skyline), so we have money and like to throw huge events(the city, not me,lol) After the 2006 world soccer championship out here and the show the city provided(just check Skyarena Frankfurt on youtube), it was hard to top that for this years International athletic championship that was in town. I am sure you never heard of it as it is the average joe's olympics. People from all over the world come to compete, over 100.000 actually, so it is a HUGE event and of course a party for the city that is hosting it In Frankfurt we have a river called the Main in the middle of town, so we used it as a central place to open the, well, party pretty much How is it relevant to TPR you might ask? If you click on the link below, you will see the first ever show to that scale, using laser, fireworks and(some super secret, non terminator)machines to project amazing objects for the public to see by just using water as a background For the past months we had tons of people here looking over our shoulders from certain southern california themeparks that might(actually will) bring the "adventure" to your neck of the woods. It's not on you tube yet(at least not the official one), so only a link that I can provide Couple of notes - What we did was huge, it is way to long for american taste(including mine), show is 38 min long, you can easily skip the first 5 min of the video or just check the last 20 min to see what you probably (with different characters) will enjoy at a So Cal themepark in 2010 - Remember this is all done on an actual moving river, not a lake. - The "Waterstage" is about 550feet long, fountains go 130 feet high - 50 tons of water have to be at the same time in the air for the projections to work - The same show goes on for 6 days in a row, until 6/5/09. If you are close, check it out ! Check it, I had a blast out here. Going to greece and montenegro for a little to enjoy the sun before heading back home to see what terminator is all about... andyuk200523 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Ahh, it reminds me of the great Alton Towers firework displays I used to enjoy every year up until the neighbours decided they didn't like people having fun late a night 7 days a year. Awesome to see the Pirates of the Caribbean theme in the middle too, would have been better to use the DJ Tiesto version though
MagicMountainMan Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 So you're saying that this is the technology that Disney is using for the World of Color? Looks really cool if it is!
PCW_Nut Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Wow, I am really impressed....watching this makes me remember all the laser shows Canada's Wonderland used to have and how much I loved them. *sigh*
atem122 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 That was almost too cool (especially with the Illuminations soundtrack mixed in). That was honestly the best 40 minute use of my eyes (well not really cause I skipped some of it) ever!
alexinla Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 So you're saying that this is the technology that Disney is using for the World of Color? Looks really cool if it is! Dont know about specific themeparks , but if you see the images produced especially towards the end, they are almost 3 demensional and fairly impressive considering you are projectig them just towards a wall of water Now consider doing so at a little lake for example, instead of a moving river with HUGE winds blowing(as you can tell by the fireworks and the gilrs on the baloon struggeling in this particular video), you might be able to do some amazing stuff with the right creative people in charge Edit: Forgot to mention that there were smell effects into place aswell, so when you saw fire, you smelled burned wood. Lots of water, it smelled like a seabreez e.t.c. Sounds familiar?
alexinla Posted June 6, 2009 Author Posted June 6, 2009 Never mind (edit function played a ninja on me, added my coment to the previous post)
