Kroger8 Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Ok so Monday me and my girlfriend headed up towards Charlotte for a day at Carowinds. We arrived at the ticket booth at around 10:15 a.m., and it looked to be pretty crowded. After going through security and the gates we got into the Park Promenade where it was indeed crowded for a Monday. The first thing we did was rent a locker for $8. And then we headed off to the Carolina Cyclone for the first ride of the day. We walked on the ride and got in the front seat. You could tell the grease hadn't loosened up any and was pretty slow. After the Carolina Cyclone, we walked to the opposite end of the park to meet up with our friend. We waited and waited, and waited, it turned out her and her family had already ridden Top Gun twice. So when she came, we got in line and rode Top Gun in the front, one of the greatest coasters ever. After Top Gun we headed over to Thunder Road and rode the backwards side in the very back (or front, if the train was turned around), for it being morning, the coaster moved on pretty fast. After that, we rode Frenzoid, the Swinging Inverter Ship, and it HURT, the OTSRs curve into your stomach and are nothing but pain, so anyway after that we got some frozen lemonade, and sat down. We then decided to try to get in line for Borg. We headed over to Borg and I asked the guy standing out front how long the wait was, and he replied "30 minutes" Well we thought, "Hey thats not bad, we can do that" So we got in line, and waited and waited and waited. At the hour mark the ops announced that they would be putting it on one train operation for whatever reason. Well that took 30 minutes more, and after that they were still running 2 trains, ok whatever. Well they start running the trains again and we were right at the station steps and I notice my girlfriend starting to act like she was dizzy, well I said "Tasha, hey are you ok???" and down she goes, so Im like ok don't know what to do, and everybody is staring at her, and I'm like "IDK what to do..." So some guy is like you want me to help you bring her up there? And Im like "Sure I guess" So we bring her up to the station platform, and the ride ops there were really nice to us, trying to make her laugh, getting her water, etc. He told us that she was the 6th person so far that day to pass out in line for the Borg, this was at like noon, so 6 people had passed out in 2 hours already. So when she came back around the guy told us that we could get in line for the front. So we got in line for the front and rode. Overall Borg is a really good ride, but the themeing adds so much to it. After riding the Borg, we went and got something to eat, and then went and rode Drop Zone, which was pretty much my first drop ride, even though its not the biggest, I thought it was pretty intense, anyway after that we rode The Hurler which was running pretty rough. Then we went and rode Ricochet, a pretty normal wild mouse. After Ricochet, we headed to the "nut cruncher," a.k.a. Vortex, not as rough as some said, and overall pretty fun for a stand-up, which I am usually not too fond of. After riding those, we headed over to the Goldrusher for a spin, I was pretty un-impressed, Dahlonega is a much better mine train than this. We headed over to Top Gun for another ride after Goldrusher and this time rode in the middle. I can't get over how great a ride Top Gun is... Anyway after that, we headed over to the kid section and rode The Ghoster... err, The Fairly Odd Coaster, too bad its not any longer, because for a kiddie coaster its pretty fun. Then we rode the flyers, and I was the only one who was snapping, at the end, my tub was still rocking back and forth, and the ride op had to come out and stop it, and everyone was looking at me, and saying things like "OMG his is still rocking, what did he do?" LOL snapping baby!!, anyway we then went for a ride on the Runaway Reptar, which hurts like heck, oh wait, nevermind its a Vekoma, but wait, Vekoma can make a complicated flying coaster, but in the same park have a sucky kiddy coaster?? Oh well, after that we went back to Thunder Road and rode the forwards side, which is rougher than the backwards side, and took a final spin on Top Gun, then it was time to head home. Overall, it was a fun day, but extremely hot. The park wasn't as crowded as we figured it was going to be, which was great. Borg is a good ride and so is Top Gun. And we recommend not going to Carowinds on a hot day as they don't do a good job to keep you cool. In the Borg line they have two sets of water fountains, which one works but only trickles out and you would have to put your mouth over it to get any water, and the other didn't work at all. They also have mist fans in line, but don't even reach the people in line! But again, we had fun and will probably be back next year.
SharkTums Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 LOL! I'm slightly disturbed that your girlfriend passed out and you just stood there! And then made her ride a Vekoma! Great TR though! I guess a lot of people were in the waterpark!
SonOfBeastSucks Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Nice TR. Its great what the Borg ride ops did. You probably wouldn't find that at some SF parks!
Erik Johnson Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 I was at Carowinds the same exact time that you were.....how funny is that? If I had known you were going to be there we could have met up. Its not every day we get up to Carowinds from Florida, in fact it was the first time we have visited. Yeah it was very hot that day, but we still had a great time. We are willing to trade BGT Scorpion and Python for your Phantom Flyers. Is it a deal? The flyers was our favorite ride. We will be putting up our Photo TR when we get back home in Florida.
Kroger8 Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 I had no idea what to do, I told the friend that was with us to get some water for her because we had noticed that they were handing out water, but other than that I was clueless as what to do. And yes of course I made sure she was perfectly fine before getting on a Vekoma. Most people were indeed in the waterpark... Yes it is true that at Carowinds the staff seem much nicer than at any Six Flags park, and I am thankful that they were so nice. Wow, thats awesome, we sure could have met up, we had a great time though. We saw some guy there filming Top Gun, they had a Camp Pinewood Staff shirt on, the reason we noticed that is that we saw a bunch of people with Camp Pinewood shirts on a couple of weeks ago at Frankie's Fun Park in Greenville, and we thought that they were following us.
Erik Johnson Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 We ended up riding the Flyers around 8 or 9 times that day...Maybe we rode them the same time. Yes it was that great, once you learn how to snap the cables...yahooooo! The lines were very short for most of the rides except Borg and the water rides. Everything else was a walk-on for us. Yeah there were a lot of campers there that day, but I think most of the people were at the Water Works since it was so hot.
Kroger8 Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 Yup, most people were in the waterpark, it looked over crowded with people when we walked by. We didn't ride one water ride. I doubt that we were on the flyers at the same time lol, cause everyone in line thought I was crazy when I was snapping, and were giving me strange looks. lol...
