It all depends on

-The type of memory you have, and what your motherboard supports (ie. SDRAM, DDR, DDR2, EDO, etc.)

-How many slots are available on the motherboard and what is in the existing slots.

-How much memory your motherboard can support

 

Usually, if you have free slots, you can just add the memory alongside your existing memory.
