Got a new Camera

I decided that for my trip this summer, I wanted to go beyond a pair of simple disposable cameras. So, today, I bought a Sony Cybershot DSC-S950 at Best Buy.

 

I've never owned a digital camera, but I'm confident I can learn how to properly operate it before I head out in mid-July.

 

I wanted to share some test shots I took with this thing, but the file sizes are way over 150k. How do you reduce that when you put the pics on your computer?

What works for me (Not sure about other people though) is I put the pictures in MS Paint, and save it as a jpg. It gets it to the right file size.

 

However, I've been uploading my photos straight from my camera to photobucket, instead of uploading them to TPR. Photobucket takes larger sizes.

Well, I decided to use Photobucket to resize my shots, so here they are

If you have Windows xp...look up power toys picture resizer. If you have Vista, do a search for "power toy picture resizer vista", I found a work able version for Vista that works the same.

Actually, I just remembered I had Irfanview, which I used to help with my Knoebels pics last year. So next time, I'll just use that, I think.

Ok, this thing's already having a problem. For some reason, the camera itself can't access the photos I've saved on my memory card, and it won't save any new shots. It just goes to the same "No images" screen.

 

Anyone know what's going on?

If you took your memory card out of your camera to download the pics to your computer, are you sure you put the card back into your cam? Just a thought.

No, the card's been in my camera the whole time. I hooked the camera itself to my computer.

Sounds like the memory card is corrupt. Try formatting it.

I've heard it's good to format the card everytime you want to take all the pictures off.

Also have you considered turning your settings down on your camera? If you're taking 8mp pictures, they are gonna be huge and you probably will never need pictures that big.
