Hi guys. I'm a big fan of your In the Raw DVDs and it got me wondering if you've ever thought of doing a "Total Park Tour DVD" in the same fashion.

This would be a dvd where you focus on a single park and show every ride/shop/etc that the park has. I'd would love to have one for Cedar Point, Magic Mountain, etc.

Just an idea.

Funny you should mention this!

"Theme Parks in the RAW" is actually something we have put together a plan for. Problem is, we just have a very limited amount of time.

Each DVD takes me anywhere between 2 to 5 months to complete.

For example, I started working on Vol 12 and Raw 3 back in December, and I didn't get them finished until May.

If I was doing nothing else but editing the DVDs I could probably crank them out sooner, but I've got my day job, family, TPR trips, website updates, etc....

The Theme Parks in the RAW DVD series *WILL* come out some day....it will just take some time!

Seems like you need someone to edit the vids for you

And I like the idea about making special park dvd's , but they probably get out-dated very fast...

And how wonderfull would it be if there would be a completed TPR DVD box thingy , so people who want to buy multiple dvds can buy them all at once

Just an idea though ..

Good ideas!

For the first one, I do actually have help editing some of the DVDs now. Erik "Jiggidy" Johnson, Wes, and Tyler have all helped to edit segments on recent Coaster Expedition DVDs.

As for a "box set", well, part of the problem is the materials cost. With the $10 per DVD deal I couldn't discount the DVDs any further and if we did a new "box" there would have to be art created (costs money), new packaging created (costs money), and we'd have to start putting the DVDs into different types of cases (more expensive.)

I actually looked into doing a TPR DVD Box Set when we released Volume 10, but what I realized is that it would be MORE expensive to buy the DVDs in a box set than if people bought them one at a time.

Remember, we don't sell THOUSANDS of DVDs, not at all. If we did our raw materials costs would go down and perhaps make something like that feasible, but we don't sell enough DVDs.

We are usually lucky if we sell 200 copies of each Coaster Expedition DVD over it's LIFETIME, and when you figure that TPR costs about $1000 per month to keep open, do the math, that's not a lot of revunue to keep the site up and running. And the sale of the DVDs *IS* what pays for the site each month.

So, bottom line, I want to make the DVDs as available, affordable and accessible to everyone, but I can't justifty something that would cost more money to produce.

Hope that makes sense!

Aaah , i see that, but you could ofcourse tell everyone that is a super-exclusive-neverbeforeseen-extreme-ultimate-TPR DVD BOX !!

And a 1000 dollers .. that's a lot indeed .. seems like I also need to go buy me some hoodies and dvd's here to keep the site up and running !

^ Yes, but we DO have coaster porn!

.. I could react in two ways now :

or

I am glad I was not the only one thinking that theme parks in the raw would be a great idea while watching In the Raw Volume 3. Would do a lot for us that are far away from the west coast.

There are a few things I have on my "back burned" as far as DVD and video releases goes. A "Theme Parks in the RAW" type of DVD is absolutely on there, but I think we may see a "Dark Rides of the World" DVD happen first.

There is also the TPR Video Podcast or I should say "TPR TV!" ...which is in the planning phase...we'll see if that ever gets off the ground!

^ Ok. Thank you for sharing.

No offense dude, but this thread wasn't about YOUR DVD project, it was asking about if TPR was planning to do a "park tour video."

Good to hear that Dark Rides of the World is still on the table. I was hoping that was not just a "sounds good now but will never happen" deal.

^ It really is. I would say the biggest "challenge" of a DVD like that though is the limited amount of rides you can put on each disc. You don't want to sacrafice video quality to put more segments on each disc, but you also want more rides than 6 to 8 per disc.

I think a minimum number of rides should be 20 per DVD set (10 per disc), but given how long some dark rides are that actually might be tough to pull off!

Whoa, people ask for a podcast and you consider a video podcast. That's a very awesome idea, the Dark Rides DVD also sounds very interesting.

I think this is a GREAT idea.

But Robb, how about instead of trying to do it all yourself, because we all know your busy ... instead solicit already created videos from other people.

I know that for the WDW parks, I took footage and created videos for many of the coasters/dark-rides, etc that I'd LOVE to share. Make it like the Coaster contests, but instead of asking for coaster or park videos, for specific rides. I don't even think you'd need to make it a contest. I'm sure plenty of people would love to help, I know I would.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about, I uploaded this to CoasterTube about a month ago. I know it's not anything terrific, but it gives an idea of the ride, etc.

^ The bottleneck isn't so much filming the footage it's putting it all together. If we were to do a "Theme Parks in the RAW" DVD or even the "Dark Rides of the World" DVD it would need to be put together by one person so it all feels consistent.

The footage we have. I've probably shot footage of at least 100 different dark rides over the world, most of them on a 3-chip high quality DV camera, some of them even in HD. And even if we used footage contributed by other people which is very possible (we did the for RAW 3) it would still have to be edited together and the DVD produced by me. And unfortunately, I'm the bottleneck in this case.

To be honest, we've done the "affiliate label" and "other people contribute" type of DVDs and productions before, but they just didn't go over quite as well.

I think people like a DVD that has "one face", "one focus" and is consistent throughout.

All I ask is just be patient! It will happen eventually!

I was just saying I also had the same idea. And is taking the effort to do it. I was thinking it would intrest the original poster. Obviously this guy wants to see something like this and TPR hasn't provided anything of this sort, So, I was letting him know. No harm done, right?
