Luna Park Tel Aviv gets a cool new drop tower

Recommended Posts

Well, frankly, I don't expect most of you to care about some drop tower opening in a country that, unless you're jewish, you never really planned on visiting anyway. But ever since the only Israeli rollercoaster forum closed, I have no other venue to geek-out at this, so I'm sharing the excitment here, hoping that some of the people from the old forum who visit TPR will see this.

PLUS, you might share in my excitment once I mention that up untill now I lived in a practically AIRTIMELESS country. The only airtime you could get here was from a Moby Dick style ride, or a frog hopper. both located in a remote park most people have never heard of, not to mention that the local parks are in severe lack of some good thrill rides. And even then it was only nearing on floater airtime, whereas this drop tower will provide Israel's first ever ejector airtime!

Anyhow, a few years ago I emailed the park manager with all sorts of suggestions, ideas, and critiques about the park. One of the suggestions was that they build an S&S launch tower, just like this. For many reasons(the park doens't have alot of open space, and nowhere to expand, the budget is limited, and the change to the skyline will draw more people in)

I was thrilled that they actually went and BUILT it! I don't know if it has anything to do with my email(even though I do know that the park manager did read it), but it feels amazing that it COULD be that JUST MAYBE I helped play a little bit of real life Rollercoaster Tycoon!

You'll have to excuse the quality. This was taken from a gas station across the street, during a thunderstorm, in dusk, via cellphone. I'm surprised you can even see the tower. The ride's name is "Black Mamba".

Now, whenever something gets built in Luna Park Tel Aviv, something gets built in it's sister park - Superland. When Luna Park Tel Aviv built a Boomerang, Superland built an SLC. When Luna Park Tel Aviv built a "driving school" type ride, Superland added some kiddy bumper cars. This, combined with the fact that last time I went to Superland I saw a LOT of cleared land(I totally knew they were planning something! I KNEW it!), and the fact they told me over the phone they're planning something, lets me to believe whatever is coming to Superland is going to be a BIG thrill ride. The area cleared is big enough for a coaster, but considering the park is fairly small I don't know if they're going to build another star attraction rollercoaster when they already have an SLC(The park is about as big as Beech Bend). I left a message to the park manager, I also mentioned I'm a member of a website called "Theme Park Review", so hopefully I'll get an inside scoop or something.

A picture of Superland. The cleared area is to the far left from the Skycoaster.

A link to my Superland TR is posted further down.

I'm not sure exactly, it's slightly taller than the Boomerang coaster, which is next to it. so if the boomerang is 116', I guess I'd estimate the drop tower to be at about 150' . But I could be way off.

It is larger than Beech Bend, but you can't help but be reminded of each park if you're visitng the other(assuming you've been to both). Especailly the old half of the Superland. Both are built around a small lake, The Kentucky Rumbler rules the skyline like the Kumba, there's a pinafari looper, go karts, a two-drop log flume and a bunch of other similarities.

I guess you're right though, Beech Bend is smaller and yet it has 4 rollercoasters(even though the other two are both medium-to-small). I guess I can imagine seeing Superland support another large rollercoaster!

By the way, you can see my unfinsihed Superland TR(in which I PREDICTED that they're going to get a new ride) here:
