disneygurlz2s Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 OK.... here's the thing.... Christmas 2004 my mom got me a digital camera to replace the film camera I had broken a few weeks before. Since my husband already had a digital camera for his business, and since I didn't figure we had any of the "right" equipment to go with a digital camera here at home, I returned it for film camera. (Please stop laughing, pick yourself up off the floor, and read on....) Since then, my husband sold the digital camera (his business tanked) and we have gotten an really nice scanner, copier, printer thingy that I can take photos and scan them into my computer. Problem is, I can't seem to be able to take those images and post them here. We're going to Holiday World Wednesday, and I really want to be able to do a photo trip report, but I have no clue what to do. I can tell you that the photo program I scan into is called "Picture It" and that I can save the photo to .jpg, however, I can't get the image it be small enough to post here. Also, I don't know how to post multiple pictures here. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated... Shari "still moving into the new millenium" Shoufler
SLUSHIE Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 There is probably a way to resise the pictures in you scanners software. Most scanner software has some kind of image editing options like that. If not, or you want to go the easy way, use this. http://www.gimp.org/windows/ It's a free image editing program thats like photoshop. To post more that one image, upload one image, then a new emty upload bow will appear.
Wes Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 You can download a Tryout version of Adobe Photoshop Elements here: http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=40
WillMontu Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Another alternative is to ask for a CD when you drop them off for developing. The images should come out better as they are scanned directly from the negatives rather than from existing prints. I work in the lab at Target and we can offer both Kodak CD's with all the extra software and a fancy label, and also generic Target branded CD's. They usually come in JPG form, ready to be posted to a website. To be able to post your images here, you should resize them to a decent size (usually 640x480 or somewhere around that) and save them as a JPG. Programs like Photoshop have different levels of compression, but I'm not sure about PictureIt If you want to post a lot of pictures, you might want to get them hosted somewhere, like ImageShack, which can store the image and even generate code for the forum.
moinab Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Shari- Thanks for posting this question. I have a digital camera, but I don't have Photoshop, and my software doesn't resize images. I'd love to post photos, but I'm still technologically challenged ( and that link Slushie posted scared me ) Maureen "determined to overcome my technophobia" O'Donnell
CoasterFanatic Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 If all you are looking to do is just resize pics to upload for Photo TRs and stuff like that, try a stand alone app like this one. http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm
disneygurlz2s Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 Thanks for all the suggestions so far..... I will spend some time playing with it tonight and tomorrow, and see what happens. Any other suggestions are welcome.... Nice to meet you, Maureen...glad to know that I am not the only one on here that is clueless about these things! Shari
moinab Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Hi Shari! Congrats on getting your photos posted! I've got the resizing thing down, but when I tried to post, I got the dreaded red x. Where do you upload the photos?
Wes Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 ^ There's a couple ways of going about this. The simplest thing to do is use TPR's built-in uploader. When you are writing a new post or reply in most of the forums (though Ask Alvey seems to be missing it), you should see this below the text entry area: Click "Choose File" and locate the image you want to upload on your computer. You can also add a comment like "This is me on this ride" or whatever. Then click "Add Attachment" and the image will upload. You can then repeat this process for multiple pictures. Once you are done, submit the post like you would any other and you are good to go.
moinab Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Thanks Wes! I finally got all the pieces that I needed. Yeah, I'm not a complete techno-idiot anymore! 8)
Louise Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Generally I think I'm ok with all this new millennium technology stuff, i'm generally able to cope with my computer, digicam and ipod anyhow, but for some reason I couldn't get my photos to post on here the other night. From the look of an above post I did everything right as far as multiple photos and everything goes, and the pictures (as far as i know) are of a manageable size, but when i posted them on the board i just got the dreaded red X... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!?! PLEASE HELP ME, I'M FEELING TECHNICALLY INSUFFICIENT!! I'm useless.
disneygurlz2s Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 I am not sure I have seen the dreaded red X or not... here's my technique for taking my paper photos (from 35 mm camera) and getting them suitable for posting here: I take my photo(s) and scan them into Microsoft PictureIt. Once I have them all scanned, I select them all and email them to myself. There is a feature you can selected that allows you to resize them by selecting "custom" and then I choose "medium web view" which automatically turns them into 480x480 jpg format when they are received to my email. From there, I save the pictures again, now saving them correctly sized and in jpg format. That makes them ready for posting here! Shari "it's not pretty but it gets the job done" Shoufler
