paintballer
Hi, I really don't know where this thread should go, or if anyone asked the same queston (Looked it up, no avail) so I'll just post it here and if it needs to be moved then one of the mods can handle it. Anyways, I have the oppurtonity to get a job at Six Flags Over Texas. I have 5 jobs I can choose, although the lady I was talking to in Human Relations didn't tell me all of them. According to there website I can do the following - Game Operator - Shop Worker (I guess like restocking stuff) - Front Gate ( Again, I guess it's like handing out maps or something) - Public Relations So my question is, which should I choose and Is working at Six Flags even worth it? mjensen
I worked for Great America in Chicago for 12 years. I was in the park services department - the people who clean. It started out as a summer job, then when I got a 'real job' I stayed on part time. I know personally, I wouldn't want to do any of the jobs you listed because most of them involve standing in one location all day. But that's just me. The job I had let me move around the whole park, and not be tied to one specific location - the negative was that I was cleaning! As far as pay is concerned... well yeah, it's not great. I'm not sure how much different the pay scales are at SFOT versus SFGAM, but at our park, 15 yr olds were paid minimum wage, older than that depended on the department - generally didn't exceed $8 per hour. If you like talking to people, the jobs listed are great - you'll do that all day. Great summer job - but something that would be difficult to live on. It's a neat atmosphere and you'll meet tons of cool people. My first year there was the most fun i've had in a long time.
Bolliger&Mabillard
Front Gate-The department includes box office, offering A/C. Need I say more?
paintballer
^ As do working in shops. When they say "Front Gate" they mean sitting in the 100+ Degree weather, while atleast the shops are somewhat inclosed. Besides, would they really put a 15 year old in the nice, AC box office?? BEAMER3K
Any idea on how much a SF ride operator would make? I ask because I just applied for a Ride Attendant/ Op job at Six Flags Great America.
Bolliger&Mabillard
^You are going to make minimum wage, but have the opportunity to work overtime, assuming that they have a decent budget for staffing. The con though is all your free time belongs to work.
Bbax
Hey there, I worked at SFOT for about 5 years in the retail department. Starting out as a black tag, the pay is not going to be great but if you work hard you can get promoted to red tag pretty quickly, which increases your pay by 1-2 bucks an hour. The work is generally pretty easy. Sometimes you have to deal with an angry/irrational guest which I'd probably consider the worst part of the job. Ten years later, I still consider that job (my first actually) to be my favorite so far. I made tons of friends there and got to spend most of my time in the park that I grew up in and loved. Also, the employee parties were awesome and generally included ERT on one or more of the coasters after the park closed. I remember one year they turned off all the lights on the Texas Giant for the employee party. That is a pretty intense ride in the dark!
