Hey TPR, I have some questions about a possible trip next year. The possibilities are pretty much:

A. Denver Trip. Elitch Gardens and Lakeside Amusement Park.

Or.

B. Erie Area Trip. Cedar Point and Waldameer.

Of course the Erie Area Trip would be better than the Denver one, but the Denver one would be a lot easier and cheaper to do. Whichever one I end up doing, I'm pretty clueless.

Let's say I do the Lake Erie Area Trip. I'd like to keep the trips a week long maximum. So if I fly in on Day 1. Then spend ___ days @ CP, then 1 day @ Waldameer, will that be enough?

Days @ Cedar Point: Cedar Point is a huge park, and I've never been there before. I'm not interested in any flat rides or the water park, but I would like to do all 17 coasters (and Gemini's other side) plus a few re-rides on the rides I love (I'm planning on those rides being Maverick, MF, and TTD). If I spend 1 day at Waldameer, then 2 days for flying there and flying back, will that be enough? Also, I'd probably stay in a hotel on CP since those let you in an hour early for ERT. Will I be able to drive FROM CP to Waldameer, and enjoy Waldameer all in one day? I probably wouldn't drive back, and just stay there, then fly back to SoCal the next day. So basically, can I do CP and Waldameer in 5 days?

Lines: How are lines at both parks? I expect them to be pretty long, and I'm sure certain rides have extreme lines.

Denver Trip. I really do want to dxo these parks eventually even though some people say it's not worth it. Do you think it's worth it?

I know, that's a lot, but I definately want to make my trip worth it and know how to do everything, instead of hitting everything at the wrong times and waiting longer than I should. So, thans in advance

Yes, definetly. In fact you could probably do it in a weekend.

Waldameer shouldn't take a full day. You could easilly spend half a day there and do everything. I believe it's about 3 hours from Sandusky to Erie, so you should be able to make the drive and Waldameer in the same day.

If you plan your trip in late May or early June, you should have no problems doing everything at CP plus re-rides in 2-3 days.

I can confirm that. We went this year to CP on Monday and Tuesday the 3rd week of May. We were able to get on all coasters on Monday.

During the morning ERT ride MF and Maverick.

Ride TTD the last hour of the day. We were able to have 2 rides on TTD during the last half an hour, while waiting line was + 1 hour most of the day. Avoid going to TTD just after opening as they don't do full trains (they build it up every 5-10 minutes or so with 2 more persons per train so waiting takes forever during the first operating hour.

In late June, I got in all my credits at Cedar Point in one day, plus re-rides and other rides. I used quite a bit of my second day for Soak City.

As for the Denver trip, you might want to consider going to Waterworld too because that's the highlight of Denver in the summer. With nearly 3 miles of slides, you will need a full day here since it gets VERY crowded during the summer - even on weekdays.

At Lakeside, you will probably get only 2 of the 4 credits since nobody over 54" is allowed on the Kiddie Coaster, and Dragon is never operating (not sure when the last time it ever did). Many rides are often closed, but the park does have a nice historical feel to it - even when half of its structures are boarded up and rotting away. You can get in the two coasters in about 20 minutes. They also have an ARM drop tower that's worth riding.

As for Elitch's, it's a decent park, but you could conquer the whole thing (including the water park) in less than a day. The coasters aren't particularly good there either. Sadly, Sidewinder (Arrow shuttle loop) is their best coaster. Mind Eraser is one of the more painful SLCs I've ridden, and Boomerang is nothing great either.

I suggest Cedar Point, but if money is an issue, then Denver would be fun too if you include a day for Waterworld.

I'm curious on how lines are at Waldameer on the first two Saturdays in June. Anyone know?

I've thought about Waterworld, and it probably would be fun to do, but I'm just not interested in waterparks/waterslides, but it might be worth it to go there. That really sucks that those two credits @ Lakeside aren't really possible to ride I'm a huge credit w*ore and want to get as many credits possible. And for Cedar Point, does every one of their hotels allow one hour early in the park?

All of the resorts owned by Cedar Point do.

So Breakers Express, Castaway Bay, Breakers, Sandcastle, Lighthouse point, or camper village.

Choose Breakers Express if you just want an affordable room. Breakers or Sandcastle if you want to walk to the park and don't mind spending the extra money.

Ok, I will tell you this. Denver is not worth it. Not at all. Sure, Lakeside is...Eh... But Elitches is no Airtime park and other then that theres nothing else. CP all the way IMO!

Oh, and I'd also like to do the water rides (well, SRF, and the rapids) what are lines like on those, and do they get you soaked? And hows the beach @ CP?

Posted

In July the lines for the water rides will probably be pretty brutal. Though you could just stand on the bridge of SRF and save yourself the 1-2 hour wait. Both rides would drench you though.

And the beach is on lake Erie. I wouldn't want to go anywhere near it. Not exactly the kind of beach you're probably used to.

If you are not doing the waterpark, I think you could easily do Waldameer in 3 hours.

I don't think I could stand more than one day at Cedar Point, but that's just because I don't like the park and the vibe all of the GP there seem to give off. They basically all seem to think they know every single fact on RCDB if you know what I mean.

But anyway, you should plan on spending two days there IF you want all of the credits. The lines can be bad.

The GP is definately NOT going to stop me from getting all my credits, and some re-rides. And is Waldameer's waterpark worth going to...?

Well, it's not lookin' too good now. There was a possibility of doing a small Texas trip with SFoT and possibly Cliff's, Joyland, Wonderland, and Frontier City, but I don't know about that either. Then for the Ohio trip, instead of doing CP and Waldameer, pissibly CP and Kennywood or CP and KI. Not very good chances of either right now But just wondering for 2010, maybe if I did CP, Waldameer, and Kennywood, would it be possible to drive from a CP hotel, to Waldameer, do Waldameer, then drive to Pittsburgh all in one day? I'm thinkin' it could, if I left early, did Waldameer in just an hour, then drive to Pittsburgh. Doesn't seem too bad.

Okay, I figured instead of starting a new topic, just go back to this one.

I think the final trip will be...

...Cedar Point, Kings Island, Coney Island, and a good chance of Kennywood.

I'm thinking of 2-3 (probably 3, if needed but 2 would be much easier) days at Cedar Point (at Breakers Express, probably) and a day at Kings Island (unless that isn't possible, I'll do 2).

Is Breakers Express the cheapest Cedar Point Hotel? Cedar Point's website is very vague on hotels, and I couldn't find prices. Is there any idea of how much Breakers Express is, or even if it is the cheapest?

How long do lines get at Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Kennywood? All parks would be done in July, and I would make sure to do Cedar Point on weekdays.

What rides to get out of the way during Early Access to Cedar Point? Then what to run to after, and when rides fill up/are dead. Same for Kings Island, and I'm not thinking Kennywood will be tooo bad...

If I think of any more questions, I'll just edit my post.

Thanks in advance.
