mousch Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Going to Cedar point, end of may for a seven day trip,40th birthday(should i or ). I wondered if there are parks close enough to do a detour for 3 or 4 days? If anyone could give me a few pointers it would be appreciated.
RBOrrell Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 There are lot's of opportunities within a 5-6 hour drive of CP. For example, Kings Island in Southern Ohio. 4 hours east is Darien Lake (2 hours past there in Toronto is my home park of Canada's Wonderland). Michigan Adventure.
larrygator Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Either of the following circuits can be done as a 3-4 day detour. Drive east to Waldameer, then south to Kennywood, then west to King's Island, then return to Cedar Point. Drive Southwest to King's Island, continue west to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom (although this park can be skipped), then proceed northwest to Holiday World, then north to Indiana Beach before driving back to Cedar Point. There are plenty of parks within 5-6 hours, but making a circular route will save you driving time.

I normally wouldn't say this, but I think Kings Island is a must-do now with the new B&M. You should hit Diamondback in its first season just in case CF decides to brake rape it down the road. If you buy the Cedar Fair Platinum Pass ($150 USD), you can get unlimited access and parking to both Cedar Point as well as Kings Island. The Platinum Pass also gets you into both Cedar Point and Kings Island 1 hour before the parks open. This is great for hitting the stuff that normally has horrible queues. As for accommodations: Cedar Point: Breakers Express seems like a decent value and it's just down the street from the park. Hotel Breakers, the on-property hotel, is nice, but expensive for what you get. Though Breakers does have some cheaper rooms in an older wing of the hotel. Kings Island: Not sure what option is best, but only do Great Wolf Lodge if you feel like spending $300/night in order to get access to the indoor water park. Holiday World: Santa's Lodge is nice, usually reasonably priced, and very close to the park. Indiana Beach: Pine View Resort is a budget motel that is right next to the park. If you want a nicer room, there's a Best Western up the street.
Jds03 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I’ve done loops centered on Cedar Point for two years now, and it's definitely a great way to plan a road trip, there’s tons of possible options, it's depends on where you want to end up and the length of the trip. Last year I went Hershey, Knobles, Kennywood, Cedar Point, Waldameer, Darien Lake then Canada’s Wonderland, but the year before I went from Geauga Lake to Cedar Point, then down to Kings Island, SFKK then Holiday World. The Midwest area is an extremely easy and great place to plan a road trip around, so you shouldn’t have to much trouble, but here’s some tips, I’ve done this the past 3 years. -Kennywood is a great park, but make sure you find a hotel in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, or else you'll end up like me, searching for a hotel at 12 at night, getting lost in the never ending maze of roads and steel mills that makes up Pittsburgh and eventually finding the only hotel with vacancy which is an overpriced Marriott in the middle of the city and spending about 200 bucks more for the night that you wanted to. -If you want to do SFKK, definitely do Holiday World in the same day because SFKK can be fully enjoyed in less than 2-3 hours, and Holiday World operates on a different time zone, meaning you get an hour more at the park before closing. -If you want to see the falls on your way to Canada’s Wonderland , skip Marine Land. The park is a complete tourist trap, and theirs basically one credit and a bunch of generic flats with animals and aquariums thrown around. If your looking for a quick park around the falls do Martin’s Fantasy Land, because it’s much cheaper and has a great woodie. -Stay at KI’s Great Wolf Lodge if you can. It’s probably the best indoor water park resort vie been to and you can also easily find some combo deal with KI since they have some sponsorship or something.
