robbalvey Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Hey everyone, What do you all think of Soaked? Was it a good expansion? Was there enough in it to justify the $29 price tag? I'm curious as to what you all thought of it and what, if anything could have been improved upon. Thanks. --Robb
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 In my opinion I think Soaked! is a great expansion pack. The addition of Waterpark features is a really cool new dynamic and is really well fleshed out. Improved Peep AI and Peep interactions (mostly for the pool stuff but there are a few new non-pool interactions too) are really cool as well. Peeps paddling and using inflatables as well as running, bombing off highdives and diving from scarily high dives are fun to watch. All the new pool rides are pretty cool, although they can look odd depending on where you place then (they don't get supports if above pool tiles, they do if there is room on an outside tile though). Body Slides, Raft Slides, Improved Water Rapids, H2O Bowls and Lazy Rivers are all pretty well done. New coasters like the Roller Soaker, Stormrunner (although it's slightly odd how they've implemented it, most inversions are only on diagonals ? having not seen one in Real-life it's hard to tell whether that's realistic or not it seems a bit limiting though), Giant Flume (which you part-submerge) are good too. There are some other new rides, Aquariums, a couple of Hershey-themed rides (Kisses Tower ? and Reese Cups Ride... nothing to write home about) all in all there are over 50 new rides including a few new coaster car types. Then there are the other features like Underwater paths, TUNNELS, Dolphin and Whale shows, Laser shows with an improved MixMaster (so you can link fireworks, lasers and Dolphin shows all together) and some rather nice looking Water effects with proper caustics and refraction (the water droplets that get splashed onto the "camera" are pretty cool.). The fact they altered the CTRL key to make scenery/building pieces jump to the last height is a godsend too! These all tie together to make Soaked one pretty impressive expansion as it adds SO much to the original RCT3 (admittedly you could argue that Tunnels and a lot of the bugfixes should have been in the original game but still). I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Soaked!, it has a few faults, nothing showstopping, it's a BILLION times faster and more stable than regular RCT3 as well. Mmmmm that came over really positive seriously though, it's a good expansion, I can't imagine you'd be disappointed.
coasterdude5 Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Yeah^^. Pretty much what he said. The Stormrunner track is just odd. But that's just my opinion.
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Yeah, I must admit I've never used the Stormrunner because of that particular oddity...... I think they added a few pieces to the Stratacoaster too, I can't be certain, it's easy to blur between pre-and-post-soaked once you have soaked installed. Oh yeah they also added Terrain Pieces (for when you make tunnels so you can cover exposed pieces of track) which include Tunnel Entrances too. Oh and I forgot to mention Waterfalls too
TwistedTrack Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 its a very good expansion to the game. now being able to build underground, make waterfalls and water parks.
XLRBR Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I think that is expansion pack does add a lot, and i mean A LOT, of stuff to just regular RCT3. I love it, and love all the new things like body slides and lazy rivers and improved rapid rides as pucechan said. All-in-all, it's an awesome expansion pack with awesome expande things! But I don't get all the chocolate themed things. :? Anyway, I think that you should buy it Robb cos it is a really cool expansion pack and I can't wait for all the others. P.S. You can get it at Best Buy for only $25. That's where I got mine.
Angry_Gumball Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 If I were you, I'd get it. Yes, 30 bucks seems a lot but it's worth it. Ok, I paid $25 for it but it's still worth the $30. Depending on your machine and how many peeps you let in the park, FPS is greatly improved. Not to mention, there's quite a few new rides, not some upgrades to theming like Wacky Worlds or Time Twisters for RCT2. (Still haven't bought it) Overall, I'd recommend getting it...you may get lucky and find it for $25 at Best Buy or if you have a Fry's Electronics in the area, get it there. Side note: Storm runner track is weird, I'll agree but it's actually kinda cool as well; making a beefed up kingda ka/ttd.
coasterdude5 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Definately get it at Best Buy if possible. It's $25 there.
RtherBOnACoaster Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 You should get it because all of the new rides and the water park feture. But the levels arent that great beacuse they are all repetitive and small in my mind, but its a great game otherwise.
coasterdude5 Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 ^^I don't like the career mode either. I just make my own scenarios!
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 I didn't mind Soaked's Career Mode, I thought that the scenarios were pretty neat, and were good for inspiration. The addition of Challenges during a scenario was cool too. The only complaint I had with it was it was too short, more scenarios are always welcome. I hope they have more in Wild! (or whatever it ends up being called) than in Soaked!
Homer Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Soaked! is great, a few problems though. 1. The "Hersheys Stormrunner" coaster is so restricted, I think the schmoes at Atari need to make the Intamin rocket coasters more customizable. 2. As the tree said to the lumberjack, I'm stumped... especially when it comes to building slides, can anybody give me a good tutorial VIA PMing me? 3. Overall awesomeness, despite some unrealisticness. Get it, youll be happy, and this isnt a pointless expansion pack like the RCT2 expansions.
