NewsPlusNotes Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I don't love the idea of the water park inside Hershey Park expanding, but it's really what the general public wants. They love water parks, and they're a huge draw 'round these parts. Everyone knows that at places like Dorney the amusement side is a ghost town all day while 30,000 people pack the water park. As far as Hershey goes, the new area will be pretty interesting, as far as I can tell it'll be a mix of old and new buildings, some use of the rapids trough and basin, and some totally new parts. I did up an aerial comparison. Mike
TheRapidsNerd Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 ^That's a really good and useful comparison. Also nice to meet another blogspot blogger.
spaceace12 Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Are they using the rapids channel for the lazy river, because that would be awesome, even if it was toned down.
NewsPlusNotes Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 ^ Looks like probably for parts of it. Though I'm sure they'll have to work to get the correct depth and then line it and such. The whole 'upper part' will have to be dug out though since lazy rivers don't have a lift. I think it would be awesome to keep the waterfall section they added years back for the lazy river! Mike
pacoasterrider Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I think it's a good move from a park standpoint. I mean, they can attract a lot more with the wavepool and the special rooms or whatever for lodge members or whatnot. It's sad to see the ride go, but I'd call it an improvement. I'm perfectly fine with the boardwalk's expansion. I would rather put in a water ride and take out Sidewinder. They won't get rid of Lightning Racer or Storm Runner or Fahrenheit (Which border the boardwalk area if sidewinder is gone) yet and personally I'd rather spend my time on the Boardwalk then ride some of the coasters like Sidewinder. It's probably the funnest section of the park on a hot day. I'd love for Sidewinder to go and them to add those launched inner tube water coasters. That'd be ballin. There getting rid of a water ride to add one, so it doesn't make me mad. The day Lightning Racer gets demolished for the water park, someone may get hurt.
