RctInfinity Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 I've always wanted to participate in one of the Avatar Theme Weeks but I don't know what Photoshop is and doesn't know how to make a picture. Thanks in advance.
Mr.Six Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 Well, first off it dosen't come at a cheap price. But, lots of people including myself might get it for free by a family member who already has it. Such as my Uncle, who was given all the Adobe programs free because he worked for them. But, if you can't find anyone; here's their website. http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html I also imagine that places such as BestBuy, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc. Have it their also. But check everyone in your family to see if they have a copy of it first. Michael"Cause it costs a pretty penny " Thomas
CoasterFanatic Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 If you are not interested in spending the big bucks on Photoshop, try this: http://www.gimp.org/ Free and legal!
coasterdude5 Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 I always just use Microsoft Picture It! But you might not have Microsoft.
DenDen Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 I agree with Ted, the Gimp is cool. I myself use it on special projects, but use Micrographix most of the time. (i know, it's archaic, but I love it!)
WillMontu Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Paint Shop Pro is a cheaper alternative, and some of us still use MS Paint I created mine with Animation Shop and Paint Shop Pro, both part of the PSP suite.
Angry_Gumball Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 You could always try the diet version of Photoshop: Photoshop Elements. Google could probably help you from here.
Wes Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Just steal it like everyone else does. It's a good program to learn, knowing Photoshop really well is a very valuable skill!
DenDen Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Actually, if you go to your local computer show (MarketPro holds them here in FL, PA, etc, forget who does the west coast.) There's usually someone selling "educational license copies" to really expensive software. Photoshop is always there, and pretty cheap.
Angry_Gumball Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 www.journeyed.com has educational discounts as well. They should have Photoshop there.
switch_79 Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 although i was a guest on someone else's comp and didn't have admin rights to add the font for the "blank fanatic" avatar, i managed to kick mine out in about 5 minutes using MS Paint alone. it comes with any windows operating system and can be found under accessories from the start menu. although much more limiting than using photoshop, you can accomplish quite a bit with this little prog. to make my faboo fabio avatar, all i did was: 1) download the template from the forums onto my desktop 2) found a photo of fabio and ALSO saved it to my desktop 3) opened the fabio photo in Paint and adjusted the size slightly 4) saved and copied the newly adjusted fabio image (copy is ctrl + c) 5) opened the template pic 6) pasted the fabio image onto it (paste is ctrl +v) and moved it to make it fit 7) added the text to the bottom it's all trial and error with MS Paint. just play around with it a little bit. it's free, and so no money or hassle is really invested into it if for any reason the process doesn't grab you, or you don't grab it. a lot of the stuff you learn to do on MS Paint can be transferred over to using Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro if you so choose to take that leap, but for now, just try fussing around with Paint and see what you can do. And if you run across any more problems, don't be afraid to ask! cheers, >hms<
