Bucket Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 A new law has been passed in Bavaria (a state in Southern Germany) banning headscarf's among Muslim woman. In Germany, the debate regarding the wearing of headscarves in public schools is back in the spotlight with a new ruling: The highest court in the southern state of Bavaria decided that Muslim women are not allowed to wear a headscarf while teaching. The decision is set to have a nation wide effect, as eight of the 16 German states changed their school law to be able to ban teachers wearing Muslim symbols. Catholic nuns robes and Jewish Kipas (skull caps) are still allowed however, as conservative politicians say they are part of the occidental culture, which plays a crucial role in the education of young children. Bavaria's decision to ban Muslim teachers from wearing headscarves in public schools is set to cause an outcry among Berlin's Islamic community. In a class action lawsuit the Muslims complained that Catholic nuns were allowed to wear their gown while teaching, but their women would have to take off their veils. I think this is absolutely absurd and might even be a little racist. Why are Jewish people and Catholics still allowed to represent their religion but Muslims are not? What are your views on this issue?
Groteslurf Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Why are Jewish people and Catholics still allowed to represent their religion but Muslims are not? Yes, in the middle east the muslims are also wondering why muslims are allowed to represent their religion and other religions not. I support this new law. The tendency in western european countries is that you have to accept all this otherwise you're considered to be a racist. Well, schools deciding not to place a X-mas tree anymore in order not to offend muslim students, schools & companies only serving halal food for everybody, ..... I don't find this normal.
Bucket Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 Um. This new law is blatantly racist. Other religions are allowed to express their belief the way they want but Muslims are not? I am not going to lie and say that there are no problems between Turkish people/Muslims and Germans but this new law is taking it a little far. Can you please explain yourself a little better?
bgeguy Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I support this new law also. If there is a X-Mas tree in a school you don't hear Jews complaining, now do you? But if a Muslim is offended, all of a sudden we're racists and hypocrites. I'm sorry, but ever since 9/11, I am protective against Muslims. We have no idea of what their intentions are and you can't tell the difference between them. Why do you think getting through airport security is a pain in the ass? It started with them. Call me racists, I don't care. It's just my opinion.
Wes Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Yeah, I can't see this thread turning out well...
