Guest Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I want to get to some parks after our season ends here and was looking at SDC & Dollywoods websites and they are open through December, but it doesnt say when their coasters close. Anyone have any idea?
jamesdillaman Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I've gone before, and I'm pretty sure it still holds true: The coasters and other rides stay open through the end of the season except on days when the weather and/or temperture interferes. I can't remember what it is, but I want to say 45 or 50 degrees or so is the cutoff.... -James Dillaman
Sue Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I know at Dollywood they close the coasters when the temperature falls below 40 degrees. I'm not sure about Silver Dollar City, but I'd imagine it's the same.
Shavethewhales Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Pretty much every SDC ride will be open, besides the water attractions that would obviously be closed. However, once the temps start dipping into the 40's, things will start to shut down. I believe the S&S rides close first (PK and TGS), and then ThuNderaTion closes at something like 34, and Wildfire closes at 32. Fire-in-the-hole, however, is always open! The thrill crowd usually isn't there so much, so the rides typically have shorter waits (excluding PK and probably TGS). After about 6 the crowds really start dying out, and 30 mins before closing you can ride WildFire back to back as many times as you can bear. It's definately worth a trip though, even if all the coasters are cold. There really is a ton to do.
I love DW Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I want to get to some parks after our season ends here and was looking at SDC & Dollywoods websites and they are open through December, but it doesnt say when their coasters close. Anyone have any idea? All of Dollywood's water rides will be closed. All of there roller coasters will be running but roller coasters and Timber Tower will close when temperatures drop below 40 degrees for safety reasons. Blazing Fury however stays open since it is a indoor coaster.
Guest Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I've got a trip lined up for Saturday to go to SDC, going to keep a close eye on the weather until we leave though. Anyone been there within the last week or so? When do they normally call it? Its supposed to be in the 40s, but 4 day forecasts are never accurate and it was in the 70s today. If the coasters arent gonna be open we're gonna call the trip...
kraken613 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Dollywood shuts rides down at 40. But its so warm here in the South recently you probobly wont have muck of a problem with that! 700th post!
Shavethewhales Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 ^^I'm going to be there that day too. Just be sure to hit PK before it dips below 40. All the other coasters should be fine, especially Wildfire.
Guest Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Well its supposed to be in the 40's all day so hopefully we can get all the coasters. Ill be wearing a black sweatshirt and SFGAm jacket, and I have really nasty looking bleach blonde hair. If you see us say hi.
