yankees15 Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I am planning on making a trip over to Hersheypark on 10/27/07, the last Saturday of the operating season. My question is, how are the crowds on a Saturday during Hershey's halloween event?
Hersheypark08 Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I have went the past two years and I can say that most of the rides are walkon's. I don't remember if I went on a satuday though.
yankees15 Posted October 8, 2007 Author Posted October 8, 2007 ^ That is what I like to hear! All I want is station waits for Storm Runner, Lightning Racer, Great Bear, and Wildcat. Also since it is colder outside, are there more rollbacks on Storm Runner? I would love to have one even though my chances are very slim.
YoshiFan Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Last year I went on a Saturday. I heard 13,000 were in the park. Great Bear was 15 minutes, Comet was 15 minutes, SDL was a walk on, Lightning Racers was 35 minutes since they only were running 1 train on each side I didn't ride Storm Runner but it looked like it had somewhat of a line.
natatomic Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Last year, I went the first weekend of the event, and Friday was DEAD, especially earlier in the evening though it did pick up just a bit a few hours into it. I had 3 rides in a row on SR in the front row with only a one train wait. Saturday was MUCH more crowded, but compared to a summer day it wasn't bad at all either. However, I would think that the weekend right before Halloween would be the busier of the two weekends. *shrugs* Also since it is colder outside, are there more rollbacks on Storm Runner? I would love to have one even though my chances are very slim. Since it was my first visit last year, I headed straight for SR the minute I got there. I saw the first launch of the day with people on board, and it had a roll back (if only I had gotten there TWO minutes earlier!). But that was the only one that I know of.
yankees15 Posted October 8, 2007 Author Posted October 8, 2007 ^^ Those lines aren't too bad but I really hope they are shorter. ^ I would be so mad if I was you! I really hope I get one. natatomic, I have a question for you. When Storm Runner had its rollback, how close was it to making it over? Also, after it rolledback, how long did it take for them to relaunch the train?
Ccron10 Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 From what a friend told me, the park is dead and empty. I never went during In the Dark, but it has to be great.
natatomic Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 ^ I would be so mad if I was you! I really hope I get one. natatomic, I have a question for you. When Storm Runner had its rollback, how close was it to making it over? Also, after it rolledback, how long did it take for them to relaunch the train? Um, it nearly made it over. I mean, if it were just a fraction of a mph faster it probably wouldn't have rolled back. And it was down for about 15 minutes I think. That's about average, right? I don't actually know.
yankees15 Posted October 9, 2007 Author Posted October 9, 2007 ^ Yeah that sounds about right for the system to reset. I've never seen Storm Runner rollback but once it did basically stop on the top hat and then went down the drop. Thanks for all the information guys! I can't wait to get to the park. I hope it's dead.
rgb60 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Last year was crazy cold though, in the upper 30s by night, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with the crowds being sparse. I decided against riding SR with that wind chill! The last hour or two, there are hardly any lines for anything in Midway America. SR and Comet will have lines, but nothing like summertime lines. Saturday will probably have the largest crowds of the weekend. If anyone is able to go on Sunday late afternoon/evening, I'd recommend it. Practically walk-on city. Best rides I ever had on SR were two years ago @ HPITD. A thin, dense layer of fog had moved in around the creek. The launch was clear, but you went into the fog going up the top hat. The very top was clear, then you went back down into the fog, and came out into the clear just before the bottom. All the elements were like that. The snake dive was crazy, spinning with zero visibility until the very end when you could suddenly see the lights below you.
yankees15 Posted October 9, 2007 Author Posted October 9, 2007 ^Man that sounds like an awesome Storm Runner ride! Commenting on your cold statement, I rode Kingda Ka in April this year and it was only 40. Let me just say I was numb when I got off.
Little Coaster Girl Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 We went last year, and it was not bad during the day, but got cold after sunset. But i thought the crowds werent that sparce. I do know when it gets cold they hurry you through stormrunner, they say its to keep the track and cars warmed up, because when we where there in the spring for there easter event, it was just barely making it over the top, and they where telling everyone to be ready to ride, and basically dont dick around.
