Neogreeneyez Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Hello All!!! I am going to be on a road trip from Georgia to New York at the end of July. I was wondering what parks I should hit within a 8 day period? I'm willing to go as far west as CP and as far east as the coast. Please help. I know I always wanted to go to Dollywood and some of the other six flags southern parks please help Neo
Sir Clinksalot Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Here are the parks I'm sure you could do in that 8 day period: SFOG Dollywood Carowinds Lake Winnie SFA PKD BGW Knoebels Hershey Dorney DelGrosso's Conneaut Clementon Jersey Shore SFGadv And there are ALOT of other small parks going up that way as well. Gregg "That doesn't take you any further east than PA" C.
robbalvey Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 If you only have 8 days and want to hit a lot of parks, that could be kind of tight. What I would reccomend is to stick to doing either inland or towards the coast. You might spend a lot of time backtracking if you do both. Here's what I suggest: Trip 1: Day 1 - SFOG Day 2 - Lake Winnie Day 3 - Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Day 4 - Paramount's King's Island Day 5 - Cedar Point Day 6 - Geauga Lake Day 7 - Kennywood Day 8 - Hersheypark - then home to NYC Here is another option: Day 1 - SFOG Day 2 - Paramount's Carowinds Day 3 - Dollywood Day 4 - BGW Day 5 - PKD Day 6 - SFA Day 7 - Hersheypark Day 8 - SFGadv - Home to NYC --Robb
bgwfreak Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Lake Winnie you could do in half a day and drive on to Dollywood. Dollywood depending on the crowds you could hit all the coasters in half a day. The park has enough to do a whole day though. Thunderhead is always the busiest from 10-12, after that it usually is about a walk on when 2 trains are running. I just did a 7 day trip myself to the midwest and hit 5 parks. It saves time and money if you can hit smaller parks together when possible. Probably the best route I would recommend: SFOG Lake Winnie and Dollywood Carowinds (4 hours east of Dollywood) PKD, BGW and SFA (all within an hour of each other and PKD is 5 hours from Charlotte) Beyond that I'm not sure because I haven't driven north of Maryland yet on any coaster trips.
Neogreeneyez Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 Hey thanks to everyone for the tips. I like Robb's idea Day 1 - SFOG Day 2 - Lake Winnie Day 3 - Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Day 4 - Paramount's King's Island Day 5 - Cedar Point Day 6 - Geauga Lake Day 7 - Kennywood Day 8 - Hersheypark - then home to NYC I want to do this but I was looking at the Lake Winnie website and they were saying that you had to be with an adult over 21. I am 20 currently and was wondering if anyone knew if they bent the rules just a little bit or are they amusement park nazis? also my trip starts on the 22nd of July which is a Friday so that would mean I would be hitting Lake Winnie on a saturday and SFKK on a sunday. Are these parks really busy on these days? I havnen't been to CP yet and am realy excited about going on MF and Dragster (if it's running) and I haven't been to KI in over 10 years so I'm excited about that also. Thanks for the help Neo
bgwfreak Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I tell ya, SFKK is one of the worst parks I've been to. Period. I'd recommend hitting Holiday World over SFKK. Holiday World's Legend is worth the drive alone!
Neogreeneyez Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 Whats so bad about SFKK?? and how far is holiday world from that? i'll be coming from Lake Winnie so is it out of the way???
Neogreeneyez Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 Also, would Dollywood be out of the way coming from lake winnie and then going to SFKK?? or would I be able to go there if I added another day on?
bgwfreak Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Dollywood and Lake Winnie are very close to each other. I think like 30 or 45 minutes apart. SFKK gets my vote for one of the ugliest and worst kept up parks. The whole place needs a paint job. Most of the coasters can be found at any Six Flags except for Thunder Run and Chang. You really are going out of the way though to go to SFKK from Dollywood. You have to drive to Nashville and then head North. Louisville is 2 hours or so southwest from Cincinnati. I'd recommend just leaving Dollywood and heading straight for PKI. It's a more direct route going towards CP. But it's up to you, if you've been to SFGadv and I'm sure you have living in NY then you will probably be majorly dissapointed with SFKK. Holiday World is an hour West of Louisville KY, so it's not really on your way if you skip SFKK. But you can do both SFKK and HW in one day (which is what I did). Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth
