Hang And Bang Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I'm going to Kings Island for the first time this Friday and Saturday! I'm looking for tips of any kind on how to best navigate this park since I'm sure it will be packed both days. What areas / rides should I hit up first? Does KI offer any kind of Q-Bot or Flash Pass system? Do they have single-rider lines? Any help would be appreciated!
PKI Jizzman Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I'll be working in the games department by the Racer and Vortex...name's Zach, so if you see me say hey! Single rider lines....ummmm nope. Flashpass.....nope. Rides first? Firehawk/Faceoff/Italian Job On Vortex, sit in the back for minimal headbanging and great airtime. Forwards Racer may be rough, it's a hit or miss. Backwards Racer is smoother and has as much airtime. Go for the Beast at night! Drop Zone and Delirium are a must. Top Gun, Vortex, Racer, and Adventure Express will have short lines on saturdays. It's going to be hot the next couple days, so crowds will be low in my opinion. Congo Falls should have a short line, if it has a line...it moves FAST. Free water is everywhere! Flight of Fear may look like it has a long line, but the max it will get is one hour to 45 min. SOB is a hit or miss... The Eiffel Tower at night looks beautiful! So do the rides, so stay around after dark if you can! Eats? Stuncrew Grill, Happy Days Diner, and Festhaus have good food, but a meal will be around 10$. KI is like...right by highways...but the exit after Kings Island (the Beach Waterpark exit) has some good typical restaraunts you can go eat at then come back to the park. It's about a 5 minute drive and will be worth the money for a nice sit down meal. -Zach
disneygurlz2s Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 ^ Pretty much everything Zach said...... But I will add to it...... In my opinion, Saturday will be crowded regardless of the temperature. You may find during the main part of the day, Boomerang Bay can be a lot more crowded than the main park. If you are planning to do the waterpark, hit it the second it opens (usually 11, but I know Holiday World opened Splashin Safari 30 minutes earlier last Friday because of the heat), or wait until the end of the day. You will find the longest lines at the newest attractions (Firehawk) or those that have a low capacity (Face Off) so I agree with Zach about hitting them early, but at the same time, I am not big on criss-crossing the park like crazy. This is not a huge park, but it is substantial and on a hot day, you can waste a lot of time and energy going back and forth. KI was built in the 70's when the focus was having a central hub (the Eiffel Tower) with the areas going off in all directions from there. You can easily go in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction around the park. Unfortunately, even though this is my home park, I am really disappointed this year as I had high hopes for some major improvements with Cedar Fair coming in. So far, nothing to be too excited about. That said, though, it's still a nice park and you should have a great time. Shari
Hang And Bang Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 Thanks for the tips! You two have been very helpful. I'll make sure to stop by and say hi while I'm there Zach. I'm John. BTW I'm stopping by Holiday World on the way home. Another first for me!
PKI Jizzman Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Oh yeah, Tomb Raider will be closed...or highly unlikely to open, still under major rehab.
disneygurlz2s Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 ^^ Yeah, I heard that too. What's the deal? But SOB is open? I told Sammi we would ride that Sunday if it is. Shari
PKI Jizzman Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 SOB is fine. TRTR's mother board is screwed up and needs repair. From Vortex you can see parts of theming taken out of it....idk what that is.
Hang And Bang Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 I'm back home and relaxing after my whirlwind weekend. I had a blast! Loved Kings Island - Beast was incredible, I made sure to get some night rides in and was blown away by how intense it was, especially the double helix in pitch black darkness. I was really surprised by how much I absolutely loved Vortex! The forces are great in the back during the first drop and the vertical loops. Honestly those were probably my two favorite coasters in the park, and they're both over twenty years old. I took some pics with my phone I may post later, quality isn't great though. BTW I looked for you Zach, but there's like 8 different game areas between Racer and Vortex so I never spotted you. Did you work both days? Friday I had a couple of delays and only got a couple of hours of park time, but I was there all day and night Saturday.
PKI Jizzman Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Yeah, Friday I was there from 4PM to 10PM...and Saturday from 10AM to 6PM. Saturday I was sent to red (Action Zone) Sorry I missed ya!
Hang And Bang Posted August 14, 2007 Author Posted August 14, 2007 Here's a few pics taken with my crappy phone camera. You can find much better pics on the net of the coasters than the ones I took so I'll just post a few non-coaster pics... I love when large bodies of water are located right in the middle of theme parks. Atmosphere is a good thing. I also loved the pond area by Viking Fury... And I'm a sucker for a nice disco ball, especially when it's gold and inexplicably located in a food court called Festhause!
