easytoremember Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I just got back from my two day trip to Dollywood today, and I have to say it was amazing. This was my first time ever to Dollywood, and I was very impressed with the beauty of the park and how friendly the people were. I was very happy with the park because we went for the coasters, but got so much more out of it than that. Saying that, the coasters really were amazing. I was happy because I really loved Thunderhead. I was afraid that it would not live up to the hype for me because I have been on Kentucky Rumbler, and I have to say I was not to impressed with the airtime on it. Thunderhead on the other hand had atleast 8 great spots of airtime. Most of the airtime on Thunderhead is not sustained for long, but it gives a lot of short, strong pops of suprise airtime, which was a fun change from most of the airtime I am used to. On top of the airtime, Thunderhead provides one of the most out of control rides I have ever been on. It is so twisted that it is nearly impossible to know where you are going next. It is also one of the most beautiful coasters, because of its curviness and being perched on the side of the mountain. Overall, I would say Thunderhead is my second favorite woodie overall, still very far behind Voyage, and passing my old second favorite, Hades. I also liked Mystery Mine a lot, but I did have a few problems with it. For one, it is very, very short. I was suprised when I found out that it is only 1,800 ft long. Another problem is there is a good deal of head banging on the first half of the ride. Other than that, the ride is very fun. It has a great theme, and is very well done. If the ride stood alone without any theming, it would not be anything special, but it really is very cool. Please check out the video I made in the professional ametuer Videographer section!
coasterdude5 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Great trip report, I agree with alot of stuff you said, especially Mystery Mine.
kraken613 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Mystery Mine is not ageing well when I went on it the first day of the season it was B&M smooth!
coasterdude5 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 ^ It's not that's it's all rough, I think a large part of it are the OTSR's... For me it was a game trying to brace myself for each element. I was getting better by the fourth ride.

After about three rides I was able to brace myself in a way where I could still enjoy the ride and avoid headbanging.
kraken613 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I know its not that bad I rode it earlier this week but it disappoints me that it got rougher on the outside portion when it was so smooth. And isnt Thunderhead AMAZING!
easytoremember Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 Ya. I love it, especially near the front. This is really the only front seat woodie that I like.
BarryH Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 ^I prefer Thunderhead in the back, though. Dollywood's Q-Bot system is the easiest system I've ever used. All you need to do is scroll up and down the list, choose the ride that you want to use, and wait for Q-Bot to vibrate for your ride time.
kraken613 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I like Thunderhead in the front I even think you get stronger air in the front somedays.
easytoremember Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 Oh ya, I definately think there is more air in the front, especially on that first weird turn, which is easily my favorite part of the ride.
