edboxer Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I'll be in LA August 8-11 for Drum Corps International World Championships at the Rose Bowl. I'm staying in Glendale about 7 miles from the Rose Bowl. I land at LAX at 3:33pm on the 8th. I'd only be able to go to parks in the morning on the 9th-11th. Competitions begin at 3:00pm on the 9th, 5:00pm on the 10th and 5:00pm on the 11th, so I would need to be back in Glendale at least an hour before. Which day would be best to go to MM? Knotts?
RaptorBoyASU Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 SFMM can be done on a weekday in 5 hours if you get there right at opening and hit Tatsu and X first and second, then head back to Deja Vu. I think you'll be fine. I'll be at DCI as well. With my group (Hawthorne Gold) at Div III prelims/semis/and hopefully finals. Then at the Rose Bowl to watch Div 1 on Saturday night -Kyle "I love drum corps" Miller
map2 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I'd say that you should go to Knotts on the 8th. If the crowds are low then you should be able to get the park done in 2-3 hours. The main rides I would suggest would be Xcelerator, Supreme Scream, Perilous Plunge (if it's opened), Silver Bullet, Jaguar, Montezooma's Revenge, and Sierra Sidewinder. Plus LAX is closer to KBF than SFMM. SFMM should be done on the 9th, that way you will have 4 good hours of the park in the early hours. I don't really have a game plan other than go to Tatsu and X first.
HogarthOK Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Related question -- I'm speaking at a conference in October in LA, and I want to go to KBF. At the moment, I'll only have about 5 hours to do KBF, on a Friday. Is that doable? I'm tempted to stay until Saturday, but I know the crowds will be an order of magnitude worse on Sat. Second question -- I thought my Maxx pass was not valid during Haunt, but I don't even see anything about Haunt. Anyone have any clue? I was surprised to see the park was closing at 5:30 (considering on the same day, CP is open until Midnight). WTF?
tigerxeyez Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 ^Knott's is pretty easy to get through in 2-3hrs. I went on a Friday last week, and the park was basically empty. The reason the park closes at 5:30pm in October is because Haunt starts at 7pm (i think). I don't think your Maxx pass will work for the event as our regular Knott's annual passes do not.

Aha.. so I will likely be able to get in with my season pass during the day, and then back in with a Haunt ticket (if i happen to get one?) Not that it sounds like I'll need it -- but I rarely get to California, so want to make sure I ride everything I can. Thanks muchly.
tigerxeyez Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 ^I'm not really 100% on how the Maxx pass works, but I think you're right. Also, if you decide to do Haunt, Burger King usually has coupons for tickets like 25-50% depending on which night you go.
