crazydaveh Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Greetings all. I just got off the plane from Cleveland and I'm back home in the good ol' town full of tourists called, Orlando. I spent the past few days up at Cedar Point. It was my first trip and I'm glad I went. You could tell it was their first week in operation from many aspects, many of which I'll get into. Pics are down below. Wednesday: We arrive to CP around 1 pm. The weather was chilly, but nice if you're from Florida, and it did rain for about two hours. We checked into Hotel Breakers which seemed nice. The girl working the desk was very polite but was new and didn't know how to do a thing. It honestly took about 30 minutes to get everything in order and we went to our room. The two room suite CP has isn't a suite at all. It's two beds in a room with a sofa hiding behind some doors. Oh well... We had to eat and kill time, so we went to a place that became very familiar with us during our time there, TGI Fridays. Beer was good, the bartender didn't know the difference between Amber Bock and Sam Adams though. Every time we ordered something, we got the opposite. Once the "Twilight" hours began we entered. We had been watching Dragster all afternoon drooling like Homer. We saw many get lucky with rollbacks. The line was running 1.5 hours so we went to our first CP coaster, Corkscrew! This was blue and it went upside down three times. We headed to the front of the park and did several things like Max Air, Demon Drop, and other stuff. Raptor was running fast. It was nice to get on a quality B&M whose layout isn't cloned at different parks that I usually go to. Raptor gets a 9.9 from me. Then came time for some theming! We did Disaster Transport. This was pretty weak in terms of theming and ride. Next up, Wicked Twister. This was fun. This also made the beer in my system swish around, so another beer was consumed following it to make sure everything was in place. So, after the Bud Light, it was time for Millennium Force. We waited about 25 minutes and it was well worth it. This has to be one of the best coasters going. I can't say anything bad about it at all. Finally, it was closing time, so we went to Dragster to see if we could get on before closing, much to our delight the wait posted 15 minutes and we walked up. We ended up waiting about 45 but we didn't care, we were on. They were only running the train at 1/2 capacity due to cold. Dragster was incredible! It's short, but it's a great rush. We left the park and ate at Famous Dave's. Great BBQ ribs there if you're there and want some ribs. The bartender there knows what Sam Adams is too! Thursday: We went in an hour early because we dropped the coins to stay on property. We went straight for Dragster. Rollbacks were in full force. They were only running the trains with six people because it was chilly and early. We waited two hours before we got on and unfortunately, no rollback for us. We hit the rest of the coasters and some flat rides on Thursday. It was physics day so there were a lot of teens there but the longest wait outside of Dragster was for MForce at 45 minutes (posted 1 1/2 hour wait), the others were pretty much up and get on. My overall reaction to the coasters: Dragster was a lot of fun. Short ride, but a fast one. Worth the trip to ride. Millennium Force was top notch. I wish Florida would see this and put something similar in. Magnum was a lot of fun, tons of airtime and just fun. Gemini was surprisingly fun. It's fake, but the helix at the end did it for me! Mean Streak really disappointed me. I thought it would be similar to Gwazi here at BGT but it sucked! No airtime and was slow in every turn. The Snoopy coaster offered more G's than the Streak. Blue Streak made up for Mean's impotence. Quality airtime on an old school coaster. Iron Dragon was another disappointment. I'm a huge fan of BGW's BBWolf and Dragon didn't come close to the wolf. Only fun was at the end over the water. Not bad, not good, kinda fun. Snoopy Coaster was fun, some good G's on it. Mine train was simple mine train. Painful to the gut. Mantis wasn't bad, but it hurt the head. Not as smooth as SFoG's Georgia Scorcher. Raptor was great. Can't say enough. We rode several times. The others were fun, but not worth mentioning anymore. Overall, I give Cedar Point a "B". The theming wasn't like I'm used to here in Orlando but the coasters were a lot of fun. I do wish there are more coasters with inversions there. It's all tall and fast, hardly anything going upside down. The after the park closes fun SUCKS. We had to eat almost every meal at Friday's. I honestly ate at Friday's more in three days than I have in three years here in Orlando. All the other restaurants closed at 8 or 9 because it was dead. The staff was very energetic. All greeted us with a smile and made chit chat. Many asked why would leave Florida to go to CP. I just pointed at Dragster and said, "you don't have a mouse problem here!" Some laughed, some Ohio State students had no clue. Now, pics! Hi, I'm blue and I go upside down! The Wolf is better! Looks like a lot of fun! Quality! Basic food. The Hotel
crazydaveh Posted May 21, 2007 Author Posted May 21, 2007 More pics: On ride camera on Snoopy coaster. Raptor has it too. It caught me picking my nose! But I saw this and said, "good call on the sign." Sucks. I wanted to get in the water. I saw this a lot. CP must have probs with cams in the crapper! Fixing Maverick Red train wasn't running on Gemini. Shamu came up with us... This is just WRONG! Chick-Fil-A and COKE! Pepsi SUCKS. This is probably the only time you will see these two together! Quality Food! The best #1 for $11 ever! General public running to Dragster
ratdogg68 Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Glad you enjoyed your first trip to CP, it's the type of park if you want rides you have them, more than any other park, if you want theming you don't, except Frontier Trail which is so relaxing and beautiful. So was you not allowed to swim in the lake period, or is it just to early in the season. I always go in July and the beach is packed.
Cheesey Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Glad you had fun on your trip. I'm from the Orlando area too and I loved practically all of the rides at Cedar Point (though Dr. Doom totally owns Power Tower...) All central Florida really has are good B&M's. We really need some intamin coasters... I remember hearing something about the cameras on the rides, but I didn't know that they actually put them on. How much is it to buy your on-ride video on Raptor?
Homer Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 ^Wait, you're saying Power Tower is more boring than Dr. Doom's? Glad you had a great trip to Cedar Point, makes me look forward to the midwest trip even more!
Cheesey Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Well, in a sense, yes. Dr. Doom's launch feels more powerful and it gives you serious ejector air at the top of the tower. When I rode both sides of Power Tower last season, it just kind of seemed like a really fast elevator with only minor airtime. It was fun, just not as intense as I thought it would be due to it launching you 90 ft. higher. Dr. Doom has cool theming too.
matteocrepaldi Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 It must be really funny to see the general public running for TTD while you are riding it!

crazydaveh Posted May 22, 2007 Author Posted May 22, 2007 Power Tower was fun, but I agree with the Gator, Doom is more intense. The videos (DVD) were $20 each. They recorded on Raptor and Snoopy Coaster. The viewing area shows the first drop and loop, if you go to the counter they show you the entire ride. There is no audio, or there wasn't any while we were there. The video quality wasn't bad. I didn't spend the money.
