coastermaniac1 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 The racing wooden coaster Stampida at Port Aventura got 4 new Kumbak trains for this season to replace the PTC trains they had. There were a few teething problems when the ride opened this season with the new trains such as the restraints were not opening, they were only running one train out of four and the ride was running slower than usual. The blue train with 24 riders valleyed yesterday 40ft above the ground. Stampida now could be closed for several weeks or even months for extensive work on the new Kumbak trains. Why did Port Aventura go to Kumbak, they had no experiance with wooden coaster trains and the only coaster they built they could'nt get it to work so Intamin had to finish it and fix it. They should have gone to Intamin.
Stealth Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I totally agree, or they could have even stuck with the old trains maybe? What was the reason for them changing the trains in the first place? I thought the old trains seemed fine and these new trains just seem to be bringing problems. The old trains may have needed to go and I am probably unaware of the facts as to why they got these new trains but I just hope they can sort these issues out fairly soon. I'm going to Port Aventura in July and I love this ride, it would be a real shame if it was closed.
coastermaniac1 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 I totally agree, or they could have even stuck with the old trains maybe? What was the reason for them changing the trains in the first place? The old trains got into a bad state and half of the restraints would'nt open so they had to go around and open them manually which took ages and was bad for capacity. I'm going to Port Aventura in July and I love this ride, it would be a real shame if it was closed. I am going in June, atleast I already got the 2 credits. It is such a fun ride and I really wanted to ride it with the new trains. I hope it is open when I go.
Stealth Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 The old trains got into a bad state and half of the restraints would'nt open There were a few teething problems when the ride opened this season with the new trains such as the restraints were not opening Ha ha! They had problems with the old trains restraints not opening and now they have problems with the new trains restraints not opening. I reckon they will have it open by June for when you go and therefore hopefully it will be open when I go aswell. We will just have to wait and see though I suppose, you never know what other problems these new trains could bring up.
the sound Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Having witnessed the manual opening and closing, i don't see how they could of done it automatically anyway. EDIT: Is there a source on this Valley?
coastermaniac1 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Ha ha! They had problems with the old trains restraints not opening and now they have problems with the new trains restraints not opening The ride has all new systems and stuff and with the new trains sometimes none of the restraints would open so it would be sent around again. EDIT: Is there a source on this Valley? Not yet unless you can read spannish. But I am sure it happened. It will probally be posted on Screamscape tomorrow. Having witnessed the manual opening and closing, i don't see how they could of done it automatically anyway. Most of the times I have been on it my restraint would'nt open so I was always stuck for around 5 minutes waiting for some one to come around. I say they will have enough problems when Furius Baco opens next month.
the sound Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Well how do you know it happened then? There are no sources at all on the Internet, none in Google news, so give me the site in Spanish to read. I can translate with Google Translate.
coastermaniac1 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pa-community.com%2Fforums%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ft%3D1459%26start%3D120&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&prev=%2Flanguage_tools http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.umwebsite.com%2Fportal.php%3Fid%3D0home%26lan%3Des&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&prev=%2Flanguage_tools Hopefully now they will remove the trims off the first drop.
Janster Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Kumbak seems to screw everything, except Pythnon's (Efteling) new trains. De Vliegende Holaander was delayed and is still not running like it´s supposed to run. And now this... Kubak has no experience and it seems like they need to "re-invent" evertything that other coasterbuildings already invented.
Stealth Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 The ride has all new systems and stuff and with the new trains sometimes none of the restraints would open so it would be sent around again. Are you saying it has had a new PLC? It wouldn't be so bad I suppose, you get another go out of it. I don't know whether they would completely remove the trim brake on the drop. In that translation you posted it says something about regulating the speed of the train throughout the ride according to the weight. Now if this really happens then a problem with that would explain why the train valleyed. Therefore it may have nothing to do wit the train and may be due to something simple such as a problem with sensors.
Dailey Enterprizes Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Maybe they should go with fixed lap bars. You know, like the old days...
