So for a research paper for school I decided to write about the history of rollercoasters, from things like the switchback railway to things like Top Thrill Dragster. But I'm trying to get something more specific. Does anyone have any ideas on different aspects or something about rollercoasters that would make a good topic to discuss?

Thanks

you probably have to narrow it down quite a bit to write a tight paper.

You might considering looking at the evolution of a specific type of coaster:

i.e.:

Wooden Twister

Wooden Out and Back

Launched coasters

or

an analysis of different inversions

innovations in steel coaster since the advent of tubular track

or even the evolution of coasters at Disney properties

maybe even just as focused as the history of the Space Mountain coasters

The time period is way too broad. You can write a Time-Life book series on roller coaster history!

Probably the best way to start is find out what interests you about roller coasters or what roller coasters you enjoy.

^^It has to be at least 3000 words. Even though the history of roller coasters is such a huge topic, I'm sure I could include a lot. I just thought it'd be a better idea to try and get specific about one thing. I was thinking Cedar Point, from Blue Streak to Maverick but still I'm not sure .

I want to try and keep it "general public friendly". I had to write this story in english and I wrote about a day at SFMM and mentioned things like credits and I'm pretty sure my teacher had no idea what I was talking about.

I think I'm going to write it on how Cedar Point is such a major leader in the amusement Industry and that way I can expand off into some history.

Thanks for your ideas

So it's 3000 words, which is about 12 pages of typing single spaced... I'd say doing a history of a single park might be a good idea. Now just wondering because this is (or at least it seems) to be a High School paper... I'm curous what you have to write this for, since 12 pages sounds a bit long for a high school paper. I didn't encounter a paper that size until college, and even now (I'm a senior at UCLA) as a History major that paper would still be seen as a "decent" size.

It'd be about 5 pages single spaced. Rough rule is about 500 words per page single space, and about 250 words per page double spaced.
