mcjaco Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 So after a week at WDW with my wife, a flight back down to MCO for business and a night with the TPR gang, I decided what better way to end two weeks of theme park madness than a trip to SFGAm and Fright Fest this last Friday. I was over tired, and fighting a nasty cold from the last two weeks, but 40 degrees and overcast skies couldn't stop me, and my buddies Marco and Eric. It's become a ritual for us to head up on a Friday, the crowds are usually light and we can get all the credits in. Not too mention they like to visit the Necropolis. Marco, was running late from doing errands so our planned arrival as the gates opened was whacked. I then managed to get in a ticket line (this is the only time I go to SFGAm) where no one in front of me knew how to properly purchased tickets. Seriously, the guy in front of me didn't have enough cash for two tickets and argued about it.... Once in, it was off to Superman. The line was short, but operations were terrible. An hour wait for two train operation and a line that didn't fold over itself in the queue. It was the worst line of the night. The ride was intense, probably more so because Marco left me waiting at the train station for more than an hour and I hadn't eaten anything for 5 hours. It was off to V2. As per usual, my love for Impulses was justified. I still don't get the "brake shake" on the last spike.... Eric and Marco headed off to the Necropolis....or what we deemed later to be the Necrapolis. I was coughing up a lung and in need of sustanance. What better way to fill the void than with a chocolate churro! While waiting for them I took pics of Iron "Werewolf" the nut busting beast and Revolution. I was surprised to see people in line as I heard it was down for maintenance most of the summer.....oh wait, it was then too. It was off to the train ride, I have no idea why, but Marco and Eric insist on riding this every year. We were greeted by some horrendous conductor that just liked the sound of his voice...thanks Patrick, you remided me of the drama dudes in high school. It was off around the loop for the "show" part of the train ride. In basically turned into a bunch of "actors" running around fake punching each other for five minutes. No story, no dialogue (that we could make out) and it was over. I want that 22 minutes of my life back. The evening ended with a ride on the Demon, how could you not? Front row on the Eagle and front row on Raging Bull. I basically froze my epidermal layers off, but had a blast...on the coasters. That show was terrible and there were almost no scaractors this year. What gives? All in all Fright Fest was pretty lame. On to the pictures. Joe, I await to cradle your quad boobs in my restraints..... Final ride....32 degrees and one hell of an epidermal abrasion. The Demon the way God meant it to be seen....EVIL!!!! Hmmm, the weather...that's a new one. Hellz yeah! Wood, freezing temps and a case of the sniffles = Awesome CLOSED??!!! Curses, this place is evil!!!! The lights are on, but you're not home... Holy crap! There's a ghost in front of Ragin Cagun! I have no idea.... I thought this was G rated??? Train ride, where insanity ensues....I think... This ride scares me more than anything. I cherish the jewels too much. I deem thee, Necrapolis. Scarer of none. Ah, I love Impulses almost as much as Joe loves Mr. Schwartzkopf Marco (right) must ride in the front row. It makes it Semi-semi-ultimate Diving towards the semi ultimate pretzel loop Superman: Semi-Ultimate Flight...with terrible ops. No TPR of SF would be complete without one of these....it's EXCLUSIVE!!!
mcjaco Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 This year was a major disappointment. Decorations seemed half-arsed, and there were little to no scaractors anywhere in the park. The poor ops on Superman is inexcusible. I also thought it was strange to have ever sit down eating establishment closed on such a cold night. There was no where to go to warm up.
Cameron Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I was there on the 13th, and agree that it was a let-down. I actually thought that there were more decorations and theming, but far less people .. They're obviously trying to save money. Still, Viper gave a great ride .. which is nice because it disappointed me all year (and through 2005 too). I may go again this Friday evening, if I can drag some poor slobs along with me! Cameron.
mcjaco Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 ^ If I wasn't sick, I'd go. Pretty silly that we sat next to each other at dinner in WDW and had no idea we lived so close to each other.
ECZenith Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Seems about on par with SFNE's Frightfest, which doesn't say much... I like how they change the name of Iron Wolf though, that's pretty neat.
alpengeist04 Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Nice PTR!!! ...but 32 degrees is too cold for me and I wonder what the temp was with the wind chill factored in.
Bob O Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Great photo's Were you there on Friday Oct 20th????? The weather wasnt that cold on the 20th, it was alot COLDER on Fri Oct. 13 . But at least the crowds werent bad.
mcjaco Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 We were there on the 20th. It wasn't horrendously cold, but I had been in Orlando for two weeks, so it was a bit of a shock to the system. Crowds were not bad, we experienced much lighter crowds the year before on the same weekend. Superman ops, were just bad though. Every train had a second or third restraint check. The op for the Eagle was brutally mean. She was yelling at people left and right.
BeemerBoy Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Nice report. Maybe a bit too cold for my taste, though. And btw, is there a B&M Flyer anywhere in the states with good ops? I don't know about Air, but it just seems that none of 'em over here can get it right.
RNRC Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Air is fun, but when you compare it to Tatsu...well, I've never even been on Tatsu but I can just tell that it makes Air look like a kiddie ride.
