I'm pretty sure the shooting and what not was...but I don't think any of what happened to the people that moved in is actually based on fact.

I saw a TV special on Amityville a few months ago. Basically, the family fabricated all of those horror stories (not like I needed a TV show to tell me that )

I always thought that a remake of this film had potential to be good, because I didn't care much for the original film at all. I know it had a following, but to me it just didn't hold a candle to the original Chainsaw or Dawn of The Dead.

Everything you want to know about the murders/books/movies is there. The family the books and movies are based on have admitted to making up most of what they claimed happened for money. Personally I would rather them make a NC-17 full recreation of the murders. That story is much better anyway.

How did he shoot off a shotgun on the first victim, without the other 5 waking up.

I just checked this one out this evening. It was fairly good. I don't usually get startled easily during flicks but this one has some moments that made me jump.
