Coastinmiller Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I am 1 week away from embarking on a great vaction I put together for my wife and myself. We will be going to England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germay. We will be hitting all the parks you basically have in the past. Any hints or suggestions or must sees that you can let me know of that I can stop by?
SharkTums Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 If you provide a park list, I can give you a couple of suggestions on stuff you might not notice at each park.
Coastinmiller Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 Ok, here's my list in sequencial order. Oakwood, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and North Pier, Gulliver's Warrington, Pleasureland Southport, Lightwater Valley, Flamingoland, Fantasy Island, Botton's, Alton, Drayton, Thorpe, Chessington. Then off to Scandinavia where I meet up with my Norgiean friend for Farup, Tivoliland, Tivoli Friheden, Heide Soltau, Hansa, Bon-Bon Land, Bakken, Tivoli Gardens, Liseberg and finally Tusenfryd. While in Copenhagen we are going to make a side trip to Roskilde for the Viking ship museum with and an eveing tour on the fjord. Any tips, suggestions or must sees and more than welcome.
MrMorgan Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Hello from Hamburg, (the closest major city between Hansa Park and Heide Park). One suggestion I'd like to make is to stay in Copenhagen so you can be in Tivoli Gardens at night. There's nothing quite like it. They have their own "Illuminations" type show with lazers and fog and whatnot, and the whole park is lit up beautifully. I personally think it's really something you can't miss. ALSO, (I think you'll be really happy to hear this), here in Hamburg will be the big DOM fair, and I'm 99% sure that the rediculous Schwarzkopf Olympia Looping will be at the fair this time around. The websight hasn't been updated yet, but since the fairgrounds are in my neighbourhood and they've already started putting everything together, I just have to walk by tomorrow to check and I'll let you know. Try to plan at least an afternoon here in Hamburg because you shouldn't miss the opportunity to experience a German fair!
Coastinmiller Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 Yeah, we are actually staying in Copehagen(at the Selandia any idea how it is???) for 3 nights. I wanted to do Tivoli Gardens and Bakken at night anyway and besides I heard great things about the night life of Copenhagen. The "Illuminations" sounds really sweet. As for the German Fair, I would love to, although our plans are to stay in Lubeck so we are closer to Hansa for the next day, so we were planning to stay all day at Heide. But we could get out for a bit to do a German fair and another credit. When is the fair, we will be there on saturday Aug 12.
MrMorgan Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 OK, it's a good thing I checked. As strange as it is, there will be NO major coaster at the fair this summer!?!?! The "HAMBURGER DOM" fair happens 4 times a year, and I've in this city for almost 5 years, meaning I've experienced at least 19 DOM's, and this is the first time EVER that there has been no major coaster. Sorry, but I guess that makes your trip planning a bit easier. Enjoy your stay!
SharkTums Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Ok, here's my list in sequencial order. Oakwood - Go do the crystal maze, and don't miss the Vertical Slide! Blackpool - Do everything! Nothing too special at Gullivers or Southport Lightwater Valley - Toad Hole Flamingoland - All pretty obvious Skegness - Again, not much, everything is obvious Alton - Do Everything, if you like waterparks they have the best master blaster I've ever been on! Drayton - Mmmm Apocalypse Thorpe - Everything, but beware, this is the Six Flags park of England Chessington - Chair Swings!!!! Farup - OBSTACLE COURSE!!! Heide - Everything (Even the things there are two of!) Hansa - Trampolines of awesomeness Bon Bon - Everythign! Bakken & Tivoli - I don't like these parks as much as others do. I think they're overrated. Bakkens scenic railway though is really fun! Liseberg - Mmmm, Balder..oh yeah, and everything else, this park is awesome Tusenfryd - Can get pretty crowded, make sure to get your Intamin Credit if it's running!
Coastinmiller Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 Thanks Elissa. When you guys were over there did you just do the parks or go sightseeing as well?? Hey Morgan, We would still like to check out the fair, when will it be in Hamburg?
SharkTums Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Just parks. I have been dragged around the world seeing touristy stuff enough with my family!
Coastinmiller Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 Well thanks for the advice, i shall take it and have a wonderful time. BTW Elissa, I joined too late last year and missed your UK 2006 trip, which I would have done with you guys any idea what your plans are for 2007?? I'll see what you guys are doing first before I make my own plans
SharkTums Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 2007 Trips to be announced next month: Spain (with an optional Italy add on) USA Midwest Japan
larrygator Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Elissa - how could you not mention Brer's Burrow at Oakwood! I hate to jump in the "Ask Alveys" threads, but I would suggest you hit every dark ride, they are all unique. Seek them out, especially at Blackpool where they can be tough to find and don't skip the haunted swing at the end of Impossible. Also don't skip the simulator ride at Tusenfryd, by the water coaster, inside the Dragon mouth. I missed it but others that went on the UK Trip said you could get headphones with translations and that it was pretty good. At Chessington the bumper cars hit pretty hard (for non-Lusse) and actually gave some airtime on some good hits. Also, if you want to make a fool of yourself the carousel has two tea cups that you can spin pretty violently, you will get a crowd laughing at you if you go full force. FYI - At Thorpe Park you can get a single rider wristband at guest services that could save you some time on a couple of rides. If you don't have the single rider wristband the ride ops might turn you away when you get to the front of the line. At Drayton you might want to try Stormforce10 for it's uniqueness as a reversing flume/ splash boat ride , I skipped it since it started raining. Gasten Ghost Hotel is an upcharge walkthrough haunted house at Liseberg and well worth it.
MrMorgan Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Thanks Elissa. When you guys were over there did you just do the parks or go sightseeing as well?? Hey Morgan, We would still like to check out the fair, when will it be in Hamburg? Sorry I didn't see the question! The fair starts this Friday and runs for 4 weeks. I sent you a PM with more info.
