goleafsgo Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 i am watching the ESPY awards, and it is a totally pointless award ceremony. all the awards go to the mainstream sports athaletes (MLB,NFL,NBA). they just gave chris paul the award for best breakthrough athalete, when Alexander Overtchkin was aother nominee... yes, i am a hockey fan, but holy crap. all C. Paul did was win rookie of the year. Ovetchkin had the best season for a rookie EVER in the NHL.. had over 100 points, and like 40 goals or something...
BeemerBoy Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Dude, the EPSYs were ever any sort of great measuring stick. As far as Ovetchkin goes.....um, I'm pretty sure the new (stupid, did I say that?) rules changes had a little something to do with the insane point totals from this year. Remember, if the last decade had been like this past year, guys like Selanne, Jagr, Kariya, and Forsberg may be challenging all-time records soon.
goleafsgo Posted July 17, 2006 Author Posted July 17, 2006 maybe so, but he still had a much more impressive year than Chris Paul
ParkTrips Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 ^ in your opinion. Chris Paul may have not had the most impressive stats, but he was a team leader and turned around a team relocated at the last minute... where did the Capitals place last season? Third worst team in the league? Yeah...
BeemerBoy Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 ^ I was really thinking Dio might have something to say about it too. It's been awhile since he's weighed in on a subject.
mcjaco Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Just be happy they didn't give every award to a Yankee or Red Sox player. EastcoastSPortsNetwork. I've stopped watching the channel altogether.
TheArchfiend Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Just imagine all the great athletes that had their prime years or retired before the ESPY's were around. They must feel so empty inside to have never gotten one.
